Pros:
- Dual Concrete Tees. Teepads were new and long enough that I didn't notice anything odd with them. They were all most flat to the ground as well which is always a plus.
- Discatcher baskets. Baskets are new and catch just as good as always.
- Teesigns are some of the best out there when it comes to information and look. The only downside is that they are just laminated paper. I could see these being upgraded in the future but they are pretty great for what they are.
- The course offers something for almost all skill levels. There are dual baskets and teepads ranging from something that should be adequate for rec players and for pro players.
- Navigation was pretty simple. Without the use UDisc I think I could navigate this course with very little issues. With UDisc, its a breeze.
- Decently wide fairways for a very wooded piece of land. This course is new and it shows. The fairways were cut wide enough for the most part and offer mostly fair play. There are also separate fairways on the same hole for different layouts. This can make things a bit confusing at times to figure out where to throw but isn't too much of an issue once you learn the course.
- A good mix of very short/easy holes and some difficult par 4's. There were a few par 3.5's that need to be worked thru a bit but for the most part the holes played pretty well.
Cons:
- The course can be a bit rough at times. Some of the fairways really didn't have fair line from some of the pin and tee combinations. While the course has dual tees and pins and they tried to do a good job of making the holes playable for any combination it seemed to me as though some tee and pin combos just shouldn't be played yet. I think that this issue could be resolved over time with more play but as it stands some of the combos are just not good.
- The rough is super rough. This is to be expected with a newer course. Hopefully since this course is on a college campus it will get a lot of play and that will trample down some of the rough but for now if you get off of the fairway, you're going to have a bad time.
Other Thoughts:
I have a love/hate for this course. Some of the holes to me were great and others were headscratchingly difficult. Difficult not because the hole was difficult but because the layout of the hole just didn't make sense. Maybe it's just me but I'm not a fan of a 300'ish hole that forces a layup off the tee in order to get a par 3. There were a few hole combos that this was the case for me. I think that over time this course is going to continue to get better and better with the more it gets played. Play this course if you are in the area but for now it's nothing that you have to travel out of the way to play. Its worth a play but not a must play.
