Lolo Land 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 3, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Bitterroot Mountain Wilderness
With a Ridge, Pine Forest, Upper Meadow, & Gargantuan Boulders

The Various Terrains yield a Rememorable and Cool Discgolf Experience

Waba-Waba, the Boulders on this Course!!
13 thru 18 is Phenomenal
Basket Positions worth a Thousand Words... such as Cool, Unique, Scetchy, Challenging, Signature, Nitemare, Awesome, etc etc :D

Something I appreciate about the Design, is that Each of the Boulder Holes are Different and Unique from one another
They're all Cool looking and Fun, with a good Variety of Challenges

Even the Rugged Wooded Holes were usually Good 3Dimensional DG, with Ridge Elevation effecting the Fairways to numerous Good Greens and Basket Positions
3 4 n 5 had Baskets up un Stumps
Then 2 7 9 and 12 have interesting 'Tunnel Green' Challenges

Upper Meadow Hole 9 was a Beautiful surprise :)
Esthetically Pleasing with all the Purple Wildflowers and Oldgrowth Pines... and it's where you can Rip a Bomb Drive
Also, the Lewis and Clark Trail goes thru right by there

Map with very Useful information in Bar

Pink Ribbons make Navigation possible

Did notice Painted Plywood Teesigns by many Teepads

Often noticed Painted Rocks at Teepads, also

Noticed Blue Arrows on some Paths, always Nice to have reassurances :)

Pine Bench on 12, Thank You!

Cons:

Not the best place for New DGers and or those out of Shape. Rugged Rough, Moderate to Heavy Woods, and all that Steep punishing Elevation

8 10 11 & maybe 12 too, use Equestrian Trails and or Service Road/Fire Lane for Fairways
Not my Favorite Design tactic, personally

10 and 11 play Similarly, straight n down

Hole 1 is an Esthetically Unpleasant Filler, getting you from the Deck up the Ridge

Other Thoughts:

Instep Baskets and mostly Gravel or Carpet Tees... didn't keep me from getting a bunch of Birds :D

Never Identified the Teepad for 9, so I threw from where the Boulders are
9s Basket then is up past the Big Pines, and into the Woodline, with the Path

Map could maybe add to the 'Hike Uphill After Hole' list
2 4 5 11 15 16

Horse Trails = Possible Horse Manure
Didn't effect my Footing or Throws anywhere

I agree with what Jah stated in his review
There's several Holes at Lolo Hot Springs, I'd gladly take to my Local and play forever

Great Mountain Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 12, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very challenging

Several unique pin placements

Many trees to avoid on the first nine, second nine is a little more open with the rock formations being the main design factor

Most holes have several viable options on how to play it

Lots of elevation in play

Only a couple of holes where distance is a large advantage

Design takes good advantage of the many elements present

Cons:

Single chain lower quality baskets

Mostly dirt and gravel tees with a few carpet/turf

Very few trees trimmed, it can be very punishing to kick off the fairway

Some long walks between a few holes

Reasonable amount of physical fitness required

Roll aways are very common on the sloped greens for missed putts

Flow isn't too bad, but the red and pink ribbons are a necessity to find several tees

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this course, with nicer baskets and tees and some trimming of the course to increase playability it would easily rate a half point higher, and possibly a full point.

Several holes would be in the running for my dream 18. With 15 and 17 being front runners. (The layout I played was slightly different than what is shown in the photos.)

Highly recommended if you enjoy mountain golf. Wear good shoes, leave the cart in the car, and take some water along.

lolo rocks! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 18, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

+hole variety: length, left/right, up/down, a couple open (mostly woods)
+mt. views
+isolated, should have it to yourself
+challenging

Cons:

-dirt tees
-thin single chain baskets
-rough (stay on the fairway, right ;)
-navigation (fine if the pink flags are there to show the way)
-no shorter loop
-no benches

Other Thoughts:

fun course up and down the hill behind the hot springs. no two holes are the same; many different looking fairways. the top of the world shot on 9 is awesome. most of the course is in fairly dense woods, so going off fairway may require some searching & will require a heroic shot to save par. the giant boulders on the last holes are great obstacles & really change the dynamic of the course. a few really uphill holes will give you a workout. some baskets are blind off the tee, but the fairways are defined enough that you just need to put your disc down the fairway.
when i played there were lots of pink ribbon to help with navigation; if those were missing it would have been a frustrating experience trying to find the next tee & basket (big thanks to whoever ribboned it).
it's a great course; if it had signs and the baskets & tees were better i would give it a full point higher.

Fun Mountain Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 6, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very challenging! Beautiful scenery! Restaurant/bar, camping, and Hotsprings on site.

Cons:

Could use some work on some of the natural tees

Other Thoughts:

If you like mountain golf, you'll enjoy this course! Lot of hiking and rough terrain, but a lot of fun holes. Tons of elevation! Bunch of signature holes! Bunch of challenging greens! Some open shots, but mostly wooded, with thick rough off the fairways. A few par 4 type holes. More of a technical course than big distance. Highly recommend if you're in the area! Only about 45 minutes from Missoula. Beautiful place!

No real course here anymore 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 13, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

There is a bar, hot spring, and horse ride vendor. As there is not a course here, there are no pros to offer.

Cons:

The last time this course was reviewed was three years ago. When i asked a friend about this course he told me it was not worth playing. "What the heck," I thought, "It can't be that bad."

When I arrived at the course (a multi-use area with lots of other attractions) I went into the bar to ask for a map. A nice person behind the bar gave me a printed map with 13 holes on it rather than the 21 I was expecting. When I stepped up to the first tee, I could immediately see that the map was not as accurate as one could hope. There seemed to be random baskets sitting within a few feet of each other in the field and the shape of Hole 1 did not match what was on the map. It was difficult to find Hole 2 but I did. Hole 3 followed a horse trail and all that entails but there was not a clear path to the basket. Hole 4 was straight ahead but super tight because it was so overgrown. And that was the last hole I could really find. I looked for Hole 5 but could not find it. I found a random basket sitting in the woods but it wasn't marked on the map. There were no other obvious tee boxes or even targets that I could locate except for one tee box up on the rocks.

Other Thoughts:

Maybe some super local people play here. But I think it is a stretch to have this marked on the disc golf map. Yes, you can throw discs there. No, there is not a course. Go for the bar, go for the hot springs, don't go for the course.

Wild Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is a challenge. Just walking up and down the hills is physically demanding, but throw in the forested landscape with big boulders and you get a beautiful setting with throws that make you think before you huck it. Generally good signage and marks to lead you to the next tee.

Cons:

A few of the tees were difficult to find. Either the last two holes were missing baskets or I couldn't find them (entirely possible).

Other Thoughts:

Someone worked long and hard to build this unique course which I recommend you play. It reminded me of another "carved out of the wilderness" course I played up in Whistler B.C. Not your run of the mill trimmed trees and manicured lawns course, this place is wild. I could easily picture having to wrestle a bear for a disc that went off course. FUN!

21 Holes and a heck of a hike! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 11, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

A lot of elevation makes for a ton of challenging shots. Variety from tight fairways deep in the woods to #21 that ends the course with a bomb from a very elevated tee to an elevated basket.

Plenty of different lengths of holes as well, so players will use just about every disc in their bag (I'm not sure I'd try any rollers though!)

Multiple signature holes, 2, 12, 21 come to mind. The boulders make this a very unusual course and add some real different geography to play through and around.

For as new as it is, the course is pretty well marked as far as getting from one hole to the next.

Cons:

This course is still being built (May 2016) and for now it's tee boxes vary from level log outlined areas to flags marking the tee start without a real "box" at all.

This is a long course with some significant walks between holes and a lot of elevation gain and loss.

While it is well marked between holes, there are a few holes where it's a real guessing game as far as where the basket is from the tee.

Be sure to wear good hiking shoes and bring lots of water on a hot day.

Other Thoughts:

I believe the plan is for Lolo Hot Springs to eventually have two or three disc golf courses. This could turn into quite a mecca for disc golfers in Western Montana.

New course that needs a little work 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Lots of uphill and downhill shots
-Good variety of shots
-Will get better with time and more play
-Hot springs to soak in after a round

Cons:

-Hard to follow the flow of the course
-Tough terrain, bring good hiking shoes
-No tee pads, signs or map

Other Thoughts:

The course is located outside of Missoula on highway 12. It is on the property of Lolo Hot springs. This course follows the trails behind the lodge at the hot springs. The course is hard to follow and could use a map. There are two baskets and the the rest of the holes are poles. As the course is developed it could become very nice. There is camping across the street and two hot pools along with a bar, restaurant and hotel rooms.
