Pros:

-This is a short high school course. It takes up a very small part of the property in the woods. Your round here is one of those rounds where every hole is very reachable and a -9 score seems in reach, but many things could go unwell. The elevation changes increase the demand for accurate upshots off the tee and if they go bad, your disc could roll off the side of a hill and you lose a couple strokes. If you were to throw two shots off the pad, one could be inches from the pin and the other could hit an early tree.

-Putting is no joke here. #1's green plays entirely on a sloping hill downward to the right side. #4's pin is on a narrow ridge. Few other greens with roll away potential. You'll learn to be dauntless more quickly if this is the course you begin playing at. It gives a valuable lesson for newbies. It's a beginner course with some intimidation and a lot of purpose.

-You'll have a blast on #9. Drop shot that plays as a putt. The sign says 90' but the elevation decline is just at 35' so it has to be a little longer than 90' (maybe 140'). You have to putt nose downward, as a 35' elevation loss is precipitous for a hole under 150'. There is a low ceiling in play, so it'll show you a demo on what a corridor hole looks like.

-As much as I love steep downhill holes, I love uphill holes as well and I think I enjoyed #7 the most on this course. It's an immediate uphill (probably 20' up) anhyzer. Along with the big rock near the pin, it's a very short delight to play. The fairway angle is difficult for starters because it's a subtle right turn but with strict timing. The basket is a little further up to the right and it's hard to get very close on since discs won't usually sit well on a side hill.

Cons:

-Nothing much to say. It's not epic, but it's solid and has its own purpose. None of the holes are bad, and some really are enjoyable. The lack of distance variation has been mentioned but knowing the designers, they would've made an awesome course if they had more space. This course is a fly speck on a large high school campus. Many parts of the campus that would have great disc golf hole design ideas if they were allowed.

-Injury risk on #9. Maybe on a few other parts of the course as well.

Other Thoughts:

-This isn't an outstanding nine holer, but from what the designers had, they did it very well. Wish some of the more open parts of the campus weren't restricted. Still, it's a good nine holer.

Pros:

It's close to home and you can use hole 9's basket to make up new holes. I have to make up OB to make it challenging. Good course to learn on and maybe work on approach shots but no long boom shots.

Cons:

Go play it and you will see

Other Thoughts:

In no way should any 9 hole course get above a 2.0 rating. Maybe if that 9 hole course had different tee pads but no where near a 3.5!!!

Burnsville's First Public DGC! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 22, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Very challenging and scenic both lines and greens that place a premium on accuracy
-Course utilizes a flat hiking trail through a very mature mixed hardwood and white pine forest
-Each hole requires a certain shot shape to successfully card an ace, birdie or par.. miss the intended line and several less than 200' holes will have you scratching your head at bogey
-Elevation :) every hole has the potential for either death putts or roll a ways.. thank me for that haha
-Equipment in terms of baskets (Discatchers), signs (clearly marked metal signs giving intended flight path and distance marked with a tape), and restrooms with water year-round (located in the softball concession stand)

Cons:

-On a high school campus, which has two cons that go along with that 1)the design was limited in terms of space and available land for disc golf 2)Course can only be played NOT during school hours
-Teebox's 1) Concrete tee's in the mountains are really, really hard to build 2) As short as most of the holes are concrete tee's are not needed 3) Some of them are not level, but like I say you really do not need it
Holes 4 & 8 (See insert Below)
-No Benches
-The awesome vine swing we had going got ripped down by Thomas haha

Other Thoughts:

For what MHHS is intended for, it turned out really awesome in my opinion. We designed it with how scenic can we make it plus how can we teach people in our area the basic shots of disc golf in mind.

Quick run through of holes:
1) Easy opening hyzer hole, don't throw it to straight
2) Very scenic, challenging hole where you will likely be met with a headwind
3) Short and straight, make sure you finish short and straight or you will be getting poked by guardian spruce trees
4) Arguably the hardest hole on the course requiring a booming uphill right turning shot. Steep run away green with really no landing zone (see insert below)
5) Awkward tee shot with a deathly putt if you sail the basket
6) This hole is awkward as well with where the teebox wound up, you are supposed to tee off from the trail to the right of the sign, cool little uphill hole
7) Difficult angle calls for a skipping uphill flick to Ace, neat little boulder by the basket and a couple of the biggest oaks on the course
8) This hole was cut-in to be a short, hyzer putter shot.. but the basket got placed a little to far to the left (from the angle from the teebox) and this hole is now the 'poke-and-hope' hole on the course. I myself have made plenty of stupid bogeys on it because of the severe width of both lanes to the basket. Sorry folks, it is what it is.. a round spoiler :)
9) Probably the most fun I have ever had on a hole less than 100'.. make the gap and you will likely hit chains, don't make the gap and get caught up on the hill.. make a challenging penalty putt for a par from the curve on the asphalt

I know in the future holes 4 and 8 will show up in the con section but honestly every course has at least one hole that is either really hard or kinda stupid.. as the course designer Ill admit that these two holes would fall under that classification so don't eat the entire course up for those two holes. Both have nearly been aced, hole 8 has been aced. Birdies and Bogeys both come about the same time so in other words play smart on these two holes and they wont kill your round to bad.. Play risky and you will hate them forever and ever and ever lol But in all honesty, with the way the course had to basically work out these holes were just meant to be

Short, technical course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Very scenic mountain course, in pristine condition. Absolutely no litter was found on the course, let's keep it that way!
-Beautiful new Innova baskets.
-Excellent signage on every hole. You'll see the tee sign before you see the tee. Signs also indicate the direction for the next tee.
-Well designed. You're ascending on hole #1, descending on hole #9. Most of the other holes are on a "rolling" terrain, but there's not a lot of elevation change from tee to basket.
-Very technical. It's short but challenging. Birdies, even aces, are possible on every hole, if you can make it through the trees. Bang a few trees and you'll be entering a bogey on your card.
-Location. The course is located on school property, but it is entirely in a wooded area, a good distance away from the buildings and student areas. I saw nothing to indicate restrictions on time of play. However, if you are planning on playing during school hours, you might want to check with the school office. Perhaps someone familiar with school policy can chime in with more info.

Cons:

-Natural tees, mostly covered by leaves, would be very difficult to find without the big signs. Let's hope nobody rips the signs down. Some of the tees are not entirely level.
-Hole #3 has an alternate tee, not sure why. There may be other alternate tees, but they are not listed on the signs.
-The rolling fairways, often with steep left or right slopes, can make footing hazardous. If you are playing in the winter, with the ground frozen, you'll wish you had spikes. Descending to the basket on #9 is an adventure!
-Very short holes, ranging from the longest at 200 feet (#2), to the shortest at 90 feet (#9). I debated with myself whether to list this as a pro or con. I definitely like short, technical courses, but most of you big bombers will consider the distance to be a con. There's no place where you can air it out, and you could probably play an entire round with only a putter. Still, I'd recommend you carry at least one overstable to hyzer around trees.

Other Thoughts:

I was delighted to discover that a new disc golf course had been built in Burnsville. We live several hours away, but my wife's parents live in the area, so now we have a new reason to visit. I would consider this course to be a great equalizer. Perhaps you can consistently rip it 350-400 feet, but your wife and 8 year old can only max out at 100-150 feet. Don't be surprised if they kick your butt when you play Mountain Heritage. The course is only 9 holes, but could easily be expanded to 18 if they decided to add on around the school perimeter. If you know anyone at the school who was responsible for building this fine course, be sure to say thank-you. And, by all means, please respect the property by disposing of litter properly.
