Challenging course with memorable holes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 19, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Right off the bat, this course has great camping, fishing, and facilities on site, so even though its somewhat out of the way, it would be a great destination for a fun weekend getaway.

Hole 1 starts out at the *CLEAN* restrooms as either a standard hyzer (RHBH), or from the long tee, the option of a more risky forehand out over the O.B. road.

Hole 2 is a slightly downhill drive with the basket tucked into a small circle of trees. Also conveniently right next to a water spicket.

Hole 3's fairways has several trees to navigate through, with the basket on a slight elevation on the left.

Hole 4 is an island hole that your drive must land inside of the cable O.B. surrounding that area of the park.

Hole 5 (my personal favorite) is a long tunnel fairway with the kids fishing pond running up the left side. Towards the basket, it begins to open up a bit, but with one more group of trees to navigate around on your approach shot.

The long tee on hole 6 forces you to through out from a group of trees into an open fairway. Then you're left with an approach that need to come in left-to-right to get around another group of trees guarding the basket.

Hole 7 is a long fairway, following an O.B. gravel road on the left side that slowly curves around to the left. The fairway has several trees to navigate around, so throwing over the O.B. is an inviting, but risky option.

Hole 8 is a wide open fairway, but with a thick group of skinny cottonwood trees directly in front of the basket. the typical play would be a straight drive up the right side that finishes with a skip around the trees to the left.

Hole 9 is a monster to finish on. From the long, you're looking to throw your drive through one of a couple different far off gaps, with a crucial landing zone to set you up to throw your second shot through another tree row (which happens to be right where the short tee is located). Once through both rows of trees, there's a good sized clearing, and the fairway continues wrapping around to the left, where you'll find the basket sheltered up underneath easily the biggest tree at the lake, and very likely this part of Texas.

Cons:

Other than the laminated map on the pay booth, signage is currently non-existent. Although the flow of the course makes fairly good sense, the map will be a huge help to finding the next teepads marked with painted 2x4s. Hopefully this problem will be addressed as the course is brand new, and will likely continue to see some development.

Unfortunately, this course is pretty far out of the way for most people. Unlike many other small courses in the middle of nowhere, this one is REALLY worth making the trip to play! It's by far the best 9 hole course that I've played, and if it had another equally unique back 9, it would likely be one of my favorite 18 hole courses as well.

Other Thoughts:

If you live within a couple hours or are traveling through the area, do yourself a favor and come play this course. You'll be glad that you did.
