I loved the wooded aspect to the course. It is very technical and takes some good throws to have a decent round. It is a change from the other courses around here where you can just chunk the hell out of the disc and get there.

Watch your discs all the way until they quit moving or you undoubtedly lose them, and the search will probably consists of some snakes and other sketchy wildlife (such as mine did today)!!!!!! The bad thing about the course is of course that its only a 9 hole course. That is kind of good though because it gives you time to play it twice and really figure out some good lines. A lot of the fairways are only about 5 or so feet wide so that makes some of the holes annoying if you dont get a good throw off the tee.

I loved that its called pecan park disc golf ISLAND because it really kind of is on an Island. The river is always flowing and always cool. So you dont have to worry about ever getting to hot and saying man I wish we could go swimming. Because you literally can lol. There are some small rapids and big boulder to play on when you get hot and before playing it your second time.

I prefer wooded, secluded courses so the fact that Pecan Park DGC plays alongside the San Marcos River was a definite bonus. The views on #1 are spectacular and on a hot day you can take a dip in the clear water to cool off - the river is just 30 feet behind the basket.

The baskets are nearly new DISCatchers and appear to get little to no use. The attendant at the office told me that the course gets played "a couple of times a month".

This is a finesse style course that has some very cool holes and was obviously designed by someone who had some disc golf experience. The course has narrow, but well defined fairways with clear lines but, an errant drive landing in the thick rough will be punished. #9 finishes right by #1's tee so there is a good loop-back flow to the course

There are restrooms at the office. Also, they have a few discs, snacks, and drinks for sale.

Best Hole: #1

The rough is getting out of hand in many places so bring your machete. There is good clearing on holes 1 and 9 but holes 2-8 play in a moderately wooded area where the brush and weeds are extremely over grown reaching 6 to 8 ft in some places.

There are narrowly carved fairways that appear to mowed regularly but most are only 10-12 ft wide. Since any disc that doesn't land in the fairway is in serious risk of being lost we had to use a spotter on four or five of the holes. With ALOT of clearing this course would offer a much more enjoyable round.

Natural tees and no tee signs or distances, only posts to mark the hole number. Since the course is rarely played, there are no clearly defined tee boxes. There are no benches or trash cans either.

Also no practice basket but chances are you'll be alone on the course so you can just use #9's basket.

This is a pay-to-play - $5 for your round, a paper scorecard, a map and a pencil. It's a little steep for only 9 holes, but if your camp you get to play for free!

And what about the "island"? As far as I could tell the course was not on an island - we never crossed any bridges!

This is a fun and quirky course that shouldn't be taken too seriously but losing sight of a disc of the tee box is no laughing matter, Pecan Park DGC has its own green monster.
