Pros:
To preface, I'm only reviewing the Blue course, since I didn't touch the green course while I was there.
1) While there were not any definite lefty or righty holes, there was a good mix of fairway shapes.
2) Fairways in the woods were challenging, but still very fair and the lines were executable me, ~850 rated. Nothing felt like it wasn't birdie-able with a well-placed shot off the tee.
3) A good mix of open and wooded holes, with a nice mix of fairway widths within the woods.
4) Brings the water of the wakeboarding park into play, if only very slightly.
Cons:
1) The course doesn't seem to use the elevation as well as it could, most holes play along with the hills in the park rather than up and down them.
2) A few holes seemed to be much shorter than they could have been for no discernable reasons. This goes off of con one slightly as well as a few baskets are placed right at the bottom of the hill where moving it just 30 feet back would bring the elevation into play and make the holes more challenging and fun.
3) While there are a good mix of hole shapes, they are for the most part very simple and, other than being a bit narrow, they don't take any exceptional skill to hit the line needed. I threw LHBH off every single tee with no troubles.
4) The fairways are a bit wild in places. IMO, this is not acceptable from a pay course, especially for £5/person.
5) Relatively minor, but no bins or benches.
6) Holes 5 and 18 share a tee pad and the green/blue courses share many pads, fairways, and a few baskets. While the course seems to be relatively empty at all times (the guy at the reception desk looked at us like crazy people when we asked if we could pay for the disc golf course) this would definitely cause issues and backups if the sport gets more popular in the area.
Other Thoughts:
Overall, the layout is slightly above average and it quite fun but maybe a bit simplistic, I would imagine especially so for a 950+ rated player. The green course plays around and on top of the blue course and is a wee bit confusing at times but the pads and baskets for the two courses are well marked so just pay attention and you should be fine. Lastly, while I don't have issues with pay to play courses, I feel this one is over priced for what it is. If it was a couple pounds cheaper or better maintained, I would definitely bump up my rating to 3.5.
This is the only course I've had the pleasure of playing here in Scotland during my study abroad trip and despite my quite long list of cons I genuinely did enjoy the course and hope to play it again if I am back in Edinburgh in the future.
