Beware the Creek drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 5, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

• Restrooms and refreshments onsite
• Nice baskets
• Tees are good (mostly rubber mat variety)
• Signage is good (with a few challenges)
• Fairly easy to navigate (use UDisc)
• Beautiful scenery

Cons:

• Feels a bit too long in spots (minor thing)
• Some unmarked mandos out there (also minor)

Other Thoughts:

Tips:
• Definitely use the UDisc app to navigate or you may do some unnecessary walking and backtracking
• There are double mandos on 14, 15, and 27 near the baskets, so be aware

Random Thoughts:
So first off, the 'front 9' is still closed from the fire, so this review is for the 'back 18'. I'll definitely try to update this review when they open back up. In any event, the back 18 is on what looks like the unused part of the ball golf course. It's either that or they haven't yet done the clean-up to re-open the ball golf holes. What this means is that the course is generally made up of slightly overgrown grass with trees on the perimeter which 100% come into play on most of the holes. The holes are also mostly on the long side but I do think that par is fair and attainable for most of the holes. Yea, there's one where par is shockingly short and one where it's a bit ridiculous, so I guess that evens out. But your real challenge isn't the length. Ok, it's the length, but the REAL monster is the creek running through most of the course. This creek, while not terribly wide, is in a deep crevice that drops off sharply and quickly. Of course, the disc course crew has you throwing over the creek in spots and has put several baskets right on the edge of this creek (hey, I would too), but DO NOT think that you can be the slightest bit long or come in hot to these baskets or a down you're going to go. And this is going to shock you, but the creek is not filled with cotton candy and bunnies. In some spots, it's wicked thick huckle bushery. In others, just good old fashioned steep walls and water. It's all to be avoided. This is all a really long winded way of saying this course is NOT for beginners. You want to be at least an intermediate player, or a disc donatin' you will be doin'. Now with that out of the way, let's talk about the course! It's actually a nice mix of holes with a good amount of thought put into the variety of wide open, over water, short-ish technical, huuuuge bomber, right, left, and a few other flavors. The tees, outside of one that was damaged, are in good shape. The signs are accurate (for the most part), and navigation is not too difficult (with a little assistance from UDisc). Overall, you'll be challenged, get a good workout, enjoy some nice views, and hopefully leave with all the discs you came with. We did, but juuust barely.

Bottom Line:
This is a challenging course that is not to be trifled with. But if you have the skills that'll let you enjoy yourself out there, then it's a worthwhile course to climb the mountain, breathe the fresh air, and enjoy the lovely views.
