Rock River Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Rock River Park is a city park maintained by the City of Fort Atkinson. The park was clean and appeared to be well maintained. The disc golf course is located in the northeast portion of the park. The course is far enough away from the other park activities that those other activities will not interfere with play on the course. Each of the nine holes features a colorful sign that displays a map, distance, and par, and concrete tee pads that are approximately 10 feet in length and 7 feet in width. The baskets are silver DGA baskets, and are mounted firmly with cement. After each basket, the concrete tee pad for the next basket is nearby and easy to locate.

Cons:

The fairways are narrow compared to other courses. The player can expect for throws to go off of the fairway and into the rough due to the narrowness of the fairways. The grass and weeds off of the fairway were no more than a foot or two high in July, which caused me to wonder if the Parks Department did a controlled burn of the rough during the late fall or winter.

Other Thoughts:

The entire course seemed short and played fast. Most players will find that only putters and mid-range discs are needed. For such a short course, the pars were generously high. Most 9 hole courses have a par of 27, while Rock River has an overall course par of 33. Holes 1 and 4 had a par of 5, while holes 2 and 9 had a par of 4. Experienced and advanced players will likely score a 2 on virtually every hole, while at the same time get practice at putting. The high pars are more likely for the rec players or beginners. I rate this course as very good because this type of course is good for beginners and the casual rec player, and will not be too difficult for the beginner or rec player that could discourage additional play.
