Southwest HS

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 8, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-- Good baskets. Six of the 7 are Innova; the other is Dynamic.
-- Alternate tee pads. Some just add a little distance, but 2, 3 and 6 add around 200 feet or change the line to make the hole play differently. Nos. 1 and 2 alternate tees do a good job of adding some elevation. You tee uphill to a basket near the edge of the hill.

Cons:

-- Poor land for disc golf. No trees, no water and limited elevation.
-- Limited availability. It's on school grounds, so you expect to not be able to play during school hours, but the grounds are used so much by community groups and youth league teams for practice that any time you show up, there is a good chance the course will not be playable. I've been on Sunday mornings and been unable to play all 7 holes.
-- Safety concerns. Two has you throwing over/around the end of the soccer/football field. Five basket is right behind visitor seating for the football/soccer field. Six basket is very close to the softball field and seating. Seven has you throwing over/around the softball outfield fence.
-- Even when the fields are not in use, equipment is often in the way. Everything from old gymnastics equipment to soccer goals and netting related to the throwing events for track and field.
-- No restrooms. The ones at the fields are only open when they are in use by school teams.
-- No water.
-- No map on site. The one on UDisc is OK, but it's off by 20-30 feet in a couple of instances.
-- Tees are marked by a 3-4 foot long piece of black rubber tacked into the ground. Basic info is painted on it, but that paint is already starting to fade. Most tees are in the grass, so you have to be basically on top of them to see them.

Other Thoughts:

-- The course is on a high school campus, so students new to the game are the biggest piece of the target audience. In that regard, it does a solid job. Experienced players won't get much out of it, however.
-- The course is a memorial to a beloved former teacher/coach, John Church, who passed away at cross country practice one morning in 2017.
-- No. 6 tee pads are so different that you go different directions from 5 basket to reach them. Go back (toward the building) for the short tee; for the long tee, continue away from the building.

Do not go out of your way

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 12, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

It has baskets. That is all.

Cons:

No pads no flow no layout. The baskets are so far only a pro can throw that far but no pro will play here. Flat no trees no hills through over soccer and football goals.

Other Thoughts:

You could use one basket as a practice but not really a course.
