Small town 9 Bagger 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Spencer Park is located in a super small town park. It's less than an acre with multiple activities going on. There are a few trees that come into play with neighborhood houses and corn fields lining it. Along with the course are multiple activities like Tennis, basketball, horshoes, playground, and restrooms.

Great Discraft Chainstars as baskets.

The one thing this park got right was adding the hole # to the baskets and adding the white pavers marking the tee. If you have a course map from the link/files page you should have no problem navigating the course.

This course introduces disc golf to a small town with not much around to do.

Cons:

I would not suggest installing a course like this. As much as I like seeing disc golf added this course is dangerous! It plays near other course activities and close to other holes. I don't think this park sees much activity.

Several holes cross fairways and over a walking path.

I'm a pretty decent player and nearly hit the house on hole #4.

Other Thoughts:

I would not suggest traveling to play this course. If have the map and are looking for a 20 minute play this is the place for you.

If shooting a perfect 9 (18 for score) is something you are looking for it's a possibility. I got 7 of the 9 the 1st time through.

Casey's is right down the street. Who doesn't like Casey's Pizza for lunch?

Pros:

I gave it passable because it is just that.
It is fun to play
And we'll keep.

Cons:

The course is small and hard to find the first and following tees because they are just slabs in the ground.
It is not for advanced players unless you just want to throw around.

Other Thoughts:

It is the closest one to me so I like it. I wish clinton would get one soon.

Pros:

- Nice baskets, installed well.
- Grass tees, signified by large white pavers in the ground.
- Park is easy to find, in a nice small community.
- Bathrooms, tennis, basketball, playgrounds, and running/walking track on site.
- Some obstacles in the way here and there, but essentially an open course.

Cons:

- Tennis, basketball, playgrounds, and running/walking track on site. (Yes, I listed it as a 'Pro' also). Just all packed in to a very small space. The park could really probably safely accommodate 6 holes instead of 9, but it works ok.
- The running/walking track is probably the most concerning, but it's visible in all places.
- Private property butts up to the park on two sides, and corn fields on the other two. Baskets are close enough to the fields that once the corn is tall, discs may easily end up in them.

Other Thoughts:

- I'm very pleased to see another course in the area. Just a few years ago the Decatur area had no courses, and now there's two! Small courses like this are where youngsters learn that the sport exists, and learn to play. Wonderful to see that Maroa has made this a priority to add to their nice city park.
