Pros:
+36 Innova Pro 28 baskets, one set red, one set yellow
+36 concrete tee pads, 12 feet long
+4 permanent layout combinations to choose from
+practice basket by hole 1
+huge variety of holes, everything from tight wooded holes to open water carries, with a bit of downhill/uphill elevation here and there (but nothing really steep)
+clean bathrooms by hole 7
+nice park with soccer, baseball fields & walking trail
Cons:
-tee signs, while they point players in the right direction to throw, have inaccurate distances on just about every sign. Easily fixed with some vinyl stickers, but the local club hasn't fixed them yet
-only one bench, by the short tee of the second water hole, #8
-a couple tees are too close to the fairways of other holes
Other Thoughts:
Wow, the Lafayette area finally has built the next-level course that really shows off the sport. Don't get me wrong, Lafayette already has several good courses, like at Acadiana & Magnolia parks, but this new course at St. Julien in Broussard takes it up a notch, especially the championship long tee to long basket combo here which is par 62 and lots of fun.
Four holes feature water hazards, with three of them demanding throws over ponds; the longer tees obviously require more skill to clear these ponds. About four holes are tight, wooded tunnels that challenge anyone's ability to hit the line. Then there are 3-4 holes that are basically open but have a tree line or OB road or ditch on one side where a player's wind game and distance will be tested. The rest of the holes are in-between tree densities with guarded greens.
So much variety here, with each of the four tee/basket combos providing a wide selection of shots. But the long/long combo is my favorite by far, a definite championship-caliber design that is ready for some camera coverage. Of course being in such a small city it'll probably be a while before a huge tournament of that scale is played here, but it's waiting, and hopefully this course inspires some bigger pro events soon.
