Private Retreat, Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 12, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Lodge is located on a private camp retreat property. The course is well maintained and it is very cool that they have it open to the public.
There was no course map available, but the tees signs were nice and in great condition. Navigation is aided by orange spray paint on each basket that will point you in the direction of the next tee. Navigation was easy even for a first round.
The concrete tees are level and in good condition.
The baskets are older style Chainstars. They are in decent shape and catch well enough.
There is a lost and found located at hole 11 and is a nice addition for a course.
The front 9 makes excellent use of a few good sized hills and mature trees to create fun shots and add challenge. The water makes holes 4, 5, and 6 more fun and should not be much of an issue for experienced players. I could see newer players having to be careful with shot selection or play out and around on hole 5 to avoid a water landing.

Cons:

The back 9 is virtually wide open with maybe a tree or two between the tee and the basket for each hole. These holes quickly begin to feel repetitive and uninspired. They are not very challenging for experienced players and the only thing that would add challenge is that some of them are into the mid 300's for distance. Not much more could have been done with the land available though.
The pond on hole 11 would easily eat a disc as it was mucky and weedy. Without a doubt an errant throw would be a lost disc even just a few feet into the pond.

Other Thoughts:

Hole one begins on the far side of the main lodge from the parking lot and there was a box with information available there with course rules.
I added hole lengths, water hazards, and elevation changes to the course information as this information was unavailable before our visit. With that information missing we were not sure what to expect, but we were overall pleasantly surprised.
I was very impressed with the front 9. If the whole course had been similar to the front 9 this course would easily rate a 3 or higher. It is worth a trip out if you are in the area.

Le Lodge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good elevation change for a course in the Midwest. Front nine are interesting/unique with great views of the nearby pond. Back nine are longer and more open. Pars are generous. My favorite course in the area.

Cons:

Open hours can vary quite a bit. It's a good idea to check their FB page to make sure they'll be open before heading out.
