Tom Triplett

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 21, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 holes with multiple tees on every hole and DIScatcher baskets with a neat course logo band that are in good condition. Tee signs on every hole and are accurate. Course is fairly wooded, but not hopelessly tight (except 15). After a couple of wooded holes to start, you're treated to a very open hole with water on the left and OB road to the right. After a somewhat also open 5 and 6, you're back in the woods for a while. Hole 13 is the last somewhat open hole, unless you play 14 from the longs. A few longer holes mesh well with the par threes Triplett has to offer. Navigation wasn't too hard. Good variety of backhand/forehand and tunnel shots, along with the aforementioned open holes. Amenities on site as well.

Cons:

Two big things stuck out to me the most: hole 13 was unplayable from the long pad because people parked on the road that splits the drive and approach. You may find the same issue on 8, but I played the short pad, which was fine.

The other one was hole 15, which plays right next to active railroad tracks. While I played from the short pad here and had no issues, I could see it being a problem from the longer pads.

Other Thoughts:

This was a nice break from my long drive up from South Florida to North Carolina, and with its easy access to both I-95 and I-16, right off US 80, it's very much worth your time if you're driving through or if you're planning a visit to Savannah. Now I visited in the fall, and it was not muddy or buggy when I played, but I could imagine it would be in the midst of summer. Just something to keep in mind. I'd definitely play here again if I passed by.

Excellent tournament-level course

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 8, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Triplett is a very pretty course with good length and with a variety of hole designs. Holes 1, 2, 3, 16, 17, and 18 are in a larger-than-it-looks grove of trees (definite woods, not parkland). Signature and longest hole no. 4 is along the lake, fully open with an elevated basket you dare not run (most of us anyway). There is a hole 5A in the woods over the road from the basket of 5 and the tee of 6. Number 6 (open) seems to be sitting on top of an earthen dam for the lake. You go back in the woods with nos. 7 through 15. Number 13 is the transition hole back to the side of the park where you started. It starts with a narrow tunnel you throw through from an open pad; the green is open and sits at the base of the earthen dam. Holes 14 and 15 are back into the woods, the former parallel to hole 5 and the latter on the same side of the roadway as 5A. There are two or three pads per hole and one basket. There's a walking path around the big lake that is quite popular, so there are lots of other folks around walking, running, biking, fishing. You might feel a bit isolated on holes 9 and 10, but not the others. There's a dog park near holes 7 and 8. The park office has very decent bathrooms and a large pavilion. There is another set of restrooms at the tee of no. 13 (third set further back in the park away from the disc golf course). I played the course 5 times during my time in Savannah: two practice rounds before a 3-round tournament.

Cons:

It can get muddy in places as the course is distinctly flat. Number 15 is just a tad too gimmicky. It has half-fallen, slanted trees down its fairway to throw through. I appreciate that helps keep folks off the railroad tracks (the fairway is parallel to active railroad tracks), but it would be better IMHO to move hole 15 away from the tracks altogether and do away with that serious hazard. Perhaps make hole 5A permanent as the new no. 6, and then renumber everything else. 5A plays very well as it is right now with a thick, "close to pad" tree to get around at first and the basket distinctly over to the left. Yes, disc golfers walking from current 14 (potentially, the new 15) will certainly be walking into the eyeballs of nos. 4 & 5 players. All the non-golfers are anyway, you know. And the long tee of 5 is already interrupted with the current design. That's just a suggestion, designers, and (no doubt) you have been thinking about this. Why not make it happen? I also appreciate that this resorting of holes would make for a very long walk from new 15 to current 16, but we have to walk it anyway (one way or the other).

Other Thoughts:

It's a popular and busy course in good weather. Seems like if you want to have it quiet, you probably need to not be there weekends and holidays. Maybe not Thursday and Friday afternoons either. It is very pleasant to play in the wintertime (such as wintertime is in Savannah), but I suspect a little dicey in warm months when the snakes and the alligators are out and about. Though I am not a local, the locals made that plain to me. Something to think about if you too are scared to death of such. This is the South too, so it has to be bug heaven in the summertime.

Tom Tom Tom 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 21, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Discatchers, catch exactly how they should. There seems to be some alternate pin positions as well so thats nice.

+ Great teesigns. They show you everything you need and will help you navigate to the correct tee for the layout you are playing.

+ Multiple concrete tees. I had zero issue with these tees outside of one being completely covered with sand. Other than that they were great.

+ Multiple layouts available. The color guide for which tee to play can get a bit annoying at times but it would be fun to have the time to play all the layouts that this course has to offer. You can go from playing an easier short course to a difficult long and technical course. You can play whatever layout your mood is in.

+ Wooded and Open. I would say that the course is mainly wooded with a few open holes. This style makes the woods not feel so bad because there are opportunities to get out of the woods and breathe a bit.

+ Mid and Fairway course. This style of course is what I prefer. Throwing a lot of controlled mids and fairways in the woods is the most fun to me. Getting to see the disc weave throughout the fairway is one of the most beautiful things to me

Cons:

- Navigation was a bit of an issue as a first timer. Without uDisc it would be hard to find your way around. I think you could be fine without it but your round will take a while as you and Dora the Explorer go on an adventure.

- The course was a bit muddy when I was there and it hadn't rained for a bit so I'm not sure if this is a normal thing or not but when I was there, I didn't find a way to stay mud free. Boots will be with Dora on this adventure.

- Hole 15 would be one that would be hard to find. It kinda seemed like an afterthought. Its off of the area where the rest of the course is by a little bit. Once you do find it you are set up for the worst hole on the course imo. Its just a really tight and awkward short hole next to the train tracks. I felt very claustrophobic on the tee and was happy when the hole was done. This might just be a tall person problem, or a me problem, but it's a tight one.

- The first and last 3 holes play near the parking lot and a pretty heavily trafficked area for pedestrians and others who are enjoying the park. As long as you aren't an idiot it shouldn't be an issue but those holes are set up for failure. They are still fun to play but are a bit more dangerous

- Hole 18 is a bit of a let down. I always like to see hole 18 play as a fun or difficult hole to finish out the round. Hole 18 here is just a short little pitch and putt hole throwing too close to a playground. This course has a lot of good holes but this one is a let down for sure.

Other Thoughts:

Tom Triplett is a better than average course. With that being said, there is nothing remarkable about it. If I lived in the area I would probably have this course in my normal rotation. You need a fair bit of skill to complete the course and shoot well but you will also need a bit of luck on some holes. This is definitely a course that will favor the more accurate thrower over the power player.

There wouldn't be a signature hole in my eyes, maybe one of the two water carry holes but only because you throw over water. Other than that, the course seemed to all mesh together in my mind. I just remember a lot of holes in the woods where you have to hit the one line that is available. Theres nothing wrong with that, I just like to see a little bit more choices available to you off of the tee.

If you are in the area I would consider playing this course. It's nothing that you have to travel out of the way to but if you stop here you will not have a bad time.

Interesting Course, Nice Mix 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 29, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

I had heard about Triplett several times from friends who live/travel the Savannah area often and when I found myself in the general area I made the trip to give it a shot.

As is often the case the course sits in a nice multi use park that has a really long walking path, which is busy and in play at times, tennis courts and a well worn disc golf track.

Hole one starts near the community center type building near tennis courts, which are on your right coming into the park. You will see a practice basket marked #11, don't let that throw you, your in the right place. Just beyond that hole number one lies.

There are usually three teepads with notations for I believe 5 total layouts they range from red the shortest, to gold the longest. I played blue, which was in the middle(and the first one that I found) and since I ended up getting rained on a lot it made me glad that I played that one.

The baskets are Innova disccatchers and are not new but mainly in pretty good shape with just a few slightly bent cages here and there.

The pads themselves are not overly large but we're really grippy even though it was super wet. I was a fan overall.

The terrain of the course is really interesting, a lot of mixed woods with very tight but attainable lines and a really nice mix of classic southern trees line pines, oaks and magnolias along with palmettos and other coastal scrubs that can clutter your low routes. But though the trees are tight they aren't overly dense so you usually have a route out.

The first few holes are not overly long 200-330 in the wooded area and then number 5 is a monster par 5 with the lake all along the left side and an elevated basket. You basically need to throw a turnover or sidearm 300ft or more with a hard right fade to stay dry and I felt lucky as my drive shredded through the rushes on the edge of the lake. Got the birdie 4 thanks to a nice approach and felt good about that.

A couple more open holes follow and then you dive back into the woods with a lot of hit your line hyzer holes as well as a few fun little right fading shots that give you a shot to use skips and fun lines.

Another hole that stood out was 16, which isn't terribly long but possibly the tightest tunnel I've ever played.

With the woods, water and elements like the elevated baskets, and interesting lines I really liked it.

There were some signs missing but the ones they do have are great and make navigation on the hole level a breeze.

There are also benches on almost every teepad, which is a great touch as it seems to get busy.

Cons:

This is a good course, but it's not perfect and the main issue I had was navigating it. In the back, where some construction has apparently taken place in particular it's hard to find some tees(if they all even exist at this point) and there are a few long walks that I couldn't see where to go for a while.

Several signs were missing, and the area around many of the baskets holds a good amount of water, so if you were putting inside 20, you were getting wet.

There are just a few holes like 13 and 18 where errant throws are taking you near or over heavily trafficked areas, so safety could possibly be an issue on busy days.

I saw a couple of snakes too so be careful.

Other Thoughts:

This course has a lot of top notice design and features that make it a super fun play, but enough issues to keep it from being an elite course.

It seems like it is well loved and by far the most highly rated within 50 miles, and for good reason.

Even with the issues, the fun factor is super high.

No idea when I will get to play it again, but I already want to. I'd also love to try all of the layouts and see how they play differently.

Definitely worth your time, even if you have to play most of your round in the rain like I did.

Great course dealing with construction mess (when I played) 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 6, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tom Triplett is a well-designed course for players of all skill levels with Rec, Intermediate, and Advanced tees, plus a few extra tees for pros and levels in between. Unfortunately, at least when I played, there was park construction going on, plus sogginess due to recent rain, and 2-3 holes were unplayable. Still, if you live in the area or you're passing through on I-95, Tom Triplett is worth the trip.

+ Three sets of tees on each and every hole with five total layouts to choose from (in order of length/difficulty; white, red, blue, black, gold). There is a white, blue, and gold tee on every hole. The red layout shares tees with either white or blue, depending on the hole. The black layout shares tees with either blue or gold on each hole. The tee pads are also flat and an adequate size and shape.

+ Helpful tee signs for each of the three sets of tees, with color coding matching tee signs to tees. The tee signs have a picture of the hole layout, markings for each tee, and yardage for each tee.

+ The hole designs are varied -- left to right, right to left, and straight -- with lengths ranging from 119-512 feet from the white tees, 155-750 feet from the blues, and 184-959 from the golds. The white layout has one par 4 (the 512-foot #4). The blue layout makes hole 4 a 750-foot par 5, par 56 for the course. The gold layout has eight par 4's and one par 5 for a total par of 64.

+ The hole lengths are appropriate for the widths of the fairways. The four sub-200-foot holes for the white tees are all very narrow and technical fairways...and aces are very possible, as well as bad kicks and scrambles to make par. The longer holes have wider fairways. And the longest hole, the par 4, is wide open.

+ The setting of the park, with the course wrapping around the lake, following the paved greenway, is really pretty. A fawn watched my son and I putt out on hole 9. Lots of birds and other wildlife. The lake and park itself are aesthetically pleasing and well-maintained.

+ This is a fun, yet challenging course. Lots of different shots required. And if you get bored or feel like the challenge isn't stiff enough, just step up to a longer tee!

Cons:

- The biggest con for me on the day I played was the construction mess in the middle of the course. We couldn't even find holes 7 and 8. I'm not sure if they were taken out due to park construction or if the big muddy area just forced us to walk the wrong way and we missed these holes. Then, coming back on the back 9, we missed hole 13. We saw the basket and what remains of its fairway, but no tees. Our shoes got caked in mud walking between holes 12 and 14. It's just a mess out there right now. Hopefully, the course will dry out quickly and the construction projects will be completed so the course can get back to normal.

- The way the course is laid out, playing out and then doubling back along the lake, makes for some holes in close proximity to each other and other park amenities (namely, the greenway). Watch out for other players and park goers and follow your map to make sure you're walking to the correct hole.

- This is a personal pet peeve, but I wish all courses conformed to the PDGA color coding standards for courses. My son and I set off on the white layout, thinking this was the intermediate track. It turns out, white is Rec on this course and red is Intermediate. The black layout is also mislabeled here. In my humble opinion, all courses should try to conform with this standard:

Green = Novice (par = 780-830 rating)
Red = Recreational (par = 830-880 rating)
White = Intermediate (par = 880-930 rating)
Blue = Advanced (par = 930-980 rating)
Gold = Pro (par = 980-1030 rating)
Black = Super Pro (par = 1030+ rating)

Other Thoughts:

Tom Triplett is a fun and challenging course that has something for all skill levels. Hopefully, the construction mess can be taken care of soon. Honestly, the track was not in 3.5-level shape when I played. It was more like a 3.0. But I could tell that under ideal conditions, it was likely a 4.0-level track in terms of fun, challenge, and design. I split the difference and gave it a 3.5. Definitely worth the stop off of I-95!

Great course, great scenery 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 20, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Multiple tees, up to 4, on every hole. A mix of tee surfaces, but all were in good shape. Some tees were combined on one pad (White/Red) but there are at least 3 different looks on each hole.
Baskets are in good shape.
Good mix of left and right shaped holes, really no elevation here (except for #4) so this gets your variety, along with short, ace runs and long holes.
Three open holes, including #4, which gives you a break from the woods, even if they are early in the round.
Good tee signs showing all tee positions.
Nice building, with restrooms, right at the start. Pretty easy to get to off I95 with plenty of retail along the way.
Worn in rough shows this course is played a lot and not hard to find your plastic.

Cons:

Some interference with walkers on paved path.
The first 3 and last 3 feel a little tight, but you have to use that area to get around the lake.
For those of you that like water carries (me not included), this course doesn't use the lake much. #14 Blue and Gold tees have a huge carry and #4 is along the lake, but it can be avoided. For those of you that don't like water carries, this is a PRO!
#13 long tees have to hit a spot, then turn 90 degrees to follow the fairway.
#18 was a short, lackluster finishing hole.

Other Thoughts:

I am very glad I made the drive to play Tom Triplett on my visit to Hilton Head Island. It was about an hour drive, but well worth it for the variety, playability and scenery as this course circles the lake, then goes back around. Plus, it was my first GA course.
Most of the holes were wooded, but the lines seemed fair to me and the rough was manageable. You do have to hit your line on these fairways, several different shots are needed. A few holes had dual fairways, so you can take your pick.
My favorite holes:
#4 - long, open, elevated fairway, lake along the left side, and a couple of ravines to cross to the elevated basket. Really good looking hole.
#10 - depending on the tee, a variety of fairways to use.
#15 - VERY tight tunnel hole, along what looks like a very active rail line. I'd hate to play that with a train going by.
It looks like the local group is pretty active, judging by a posted schedule of events here and nearby at The Sarge. The next tee signs were very appreciated.

What a Course! The surrounding park was beautiful. It was a lot of fun despite my bad putting game. All the holes had some amount of thought put into them. A peach of a course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 31, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

I was passing through to spend a couple of days in Savannah for a mini getaway. If there is a course within 25 miles I'll always stop and play. The park is peaceful and the weather was perfect on my playthrough. We played red tees and I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of shots required. This course has multiple cement tee pads for each hole that actually make each hole dramatically different depending on which pads you play. You could play two rounds from different pads and it would feel like a different course each round. Each hole is well marked with good signage and the pedestrian interference was minimal.

Cons:

If you are a person that gets easily frustrated at wooded courses, this might not rate as highly for you as a fair number of holes are tree laden. There aren't too many negatives about this course IMO.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I would rate this course a 3.75 but I rounded up instead of down as not to lower the score and make someone skip this course. I hit the short sidearm shot on hole 3 and got myself an ace which is always a bonus especially on a new course. You could say Justice was served. This course is scenic, relaxing and perfect in January when the weather is cool. There isn't much walking in between most holes which could be a pro or con depending on the type of course you fancy. I couldn't help but wonder if anyone has tried to skip off a passing train on hole 15 from the long tee. If you are passing through town or live within an hour of this course, you have no excuse not to stop and enjoy a round.

Has practice basket

Has concrete tee pads for all tees

Has tee signs

Has many benches throughout course

Has some mandos throughout

Has next tee signs posted throughout

Course flows pretty well except for between holes 14&15

More wooded than open fairways with doglegs - which will be challenging to the casual player

Water comes into play on a few holes but holes #4 and #14 are the only ones that are really a factor in losing a disc

Challenging, long course with variety of pars

Well-maintained

Free parking

Restrooms

Water fountain

Cons:

Safety issues - course has a few holes that play near the walking path and park's amenities

Walking path cuts through on some holes - one can expect some delays on a nice day

One has to cross hole #5 fairway after finishing hole #14

Course is mostly flat

Course can get crowded at times as it's popular with parkgoers and players

Other Thoughts:

This a nice, challenging multi-use 18 hole city course in Pooler that I enjoyed playing on a cloudy Saturday morning. The many trees that are scattered throughout the course reminded me to keep my drives in control while playing from the blue tees. The concrete tee pads are not flush with the ground and may fall a little on the short side for those with a long run up. Most holes have tee pads positioned differently from each other in that each offers a different line to the basket. This is a well-maintained course and I can see how this course can get crowded with other players and parkgoers. Some of the holes play fairly close to the park's amenities and walking path so that potentially can cause some concern in safety and delays depending on how busy the park is. The course is mostly flat but so is the surrounding area. Other than that, it's an excellent course to play. If you're in this area, I highly recommend playing this course as it's a fun one to play.

-Unique pin placement, particularly on #4 and #15
-Benches available at almost every hole.

Cons:

-Tee pads were a little disappointing The concrete ones were a little too short and some of the rubber/carpet/natural ones were on pretty uneven ground.
-Course is mostly flat but it's not major negative, although many areas still had standing water from rain a few days before I played. I couldn't play 14 because it was almost totally under water.
- #18 is a little too close to the playground. I experienced other park users wandering around the fairway not realizing they were on the course.
-Quite a few blind shots to the basket from some tee pads, more than I prefer during a round, but with the great signs at every hole it adds to the challenge.

Other Thoughts:

This is a really great course in a nice little park. This course has great re-playability with the three different tee pad choices, you get 3 quite different approaches to each basket. The harder tee boxes are a lot more than just added distance to the easier tees. The holes in the wooded areas offer quite the challenge with tight fairways lines and heavily wooded rough areas. The more open holes had a very different challenge with the lake and paved paths as out of bounds. The signs and path to the next tee were pretty good. The toughest holes to find from the previous holes were 13-15 but with the map they were easy enough to find. This was a really well maintained course. I expected the tee pads to be a little better quality than they were, but they were all easily recognizable with the wooded colored posts. Overall I enjoyed my round at this course and I would definitely play the course again. It offers a great variety for all different skill levels of player.

My Local Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 18, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Every hole has 3 different ways to play giving a lot of shot variety and variable play experiences depending on the format you choose. Good mix of wooded and open shots. Baskets are reachable from most pads (except some Gold) making for several long fun ace runs. Nice park with gorgeous sunsets over the lake. The occasional train passing on hole 15 makes for a fun experience. The local club does a good job keeping up the course and providing several weekly events open to everyone.

Cons:

Tee pads are a concern on several of the holes. Some pads are slick and dangerous while other pads have drop offs right in front and could cause potential twisted ankles. Baskets are solid, but showing age. Hole 6 basket is slowly leaning down hill and needs to be reinforced.

Other Thoughts:

New information board and disc drop box would be nice improvements. Hole 18 can be tricky with park visitors/children wandering the fairway, so be careful before you throw. New tee pads and this course is a 4.5-5 all day. Bring bug spray and watch out for snakes in the summer. Hole 14 can be a swamp after a hard rain.

Consistently Challenging 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 22, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Easily the best course in the area. The SDGC has recently put up new bridges connecting the fairways on 2 and 17. The shrubs and brush have been cleared on the left side of 4... making it easier to find your lost drive. Most of the paths between the holes have been remarked using logs/branches.

TTP is a very challenging course, and it has a unique way of staying fresh for locals like myself who don't have many places to play. Five tee colors offer more than just different distances, but completely different lines to the basket. Many holes do not even share the same fairways from the the different tee pads. A day playing reds is completely different from playing blues for example.

The course itself is very wooded. Unless you've been playing for years and have your drive sighted in, expect to hit trees all day long. A handful of holes open up allowing you to rip it pretty hard, but some also bring water into play so throw cautiously.

Parking is plentiful right in front of the practice basket. Hole 1 starts a few yards from the practice area, and hole 18 ends a few yards in the other direction. Very flowing layout with not much walking between baskets.

UPDATE - Concrete teepads installed on every hole! Signage is excellent... and very helpful to find the correct tee pad/line for your tee color.

Cons:

Snakes! I'm not a fan of snakes and boy I've seen my share of them out here. Best thing to say is watch your step and make loud noises when your drive ricochets into the deep woods.

The water on hole 4 is deep... quick. If you lose your drive in the drink here, don't expect to get it back unless you dive in. While you're in there expect to find another dozen or so though.

There used to be a lot of trash cans around the course, but there weren't many out there the last time I played. I had to carry trash with me for quite a few holes before using the bin after 16. Due to this, you will see quite a bit of trash (cans, bottles) near the teepads of some holes.

People - TTP is a big park with lots of people visiting it every day. The pedestrian path weaves down the right side of hole 4. Also there is a playground right behind the basket on 18 that could potentially cause an interesting situation if your drive makes it back there. Also a gazebo near the teepad on 18 can attract kids who like to run around the fariways. Just watch out where you throw.

My only true gripe about TTP would be that because this is one of the few courses in the area, it attracts a lot of different types of golfers to play here. Most folks are friendly, but inevitably there are some that can be flat out rude. I regularly come across players out here who have absolutely no regard for families sharing the park with them. Please keep in mind that not everyone at this park plays disc golf, nor knows anything about the game. Be careful and watch out for kids near 1 and 18 in particular.

Other Thoughts:

In the summer, bring bug spray and a towel. Watch out for standing water after rain showers. Bring some bright color discs and have a blast!

Enjoyable 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Played this course early in the morning during a week with a heat wave going through the south. I liked how there is a great deal of parking near by and a disc catcher practice cage near hole 1. Had a very nice kiosk also.

Plenty of benches and trash cans

I played the reds (since it was hot as hell and I was on a family vacation). I found the layout to be a fun but challenging layout. Most pads were concrete pads but some were a carpet type that still had great grip. I noticed on most holes they had next tee signs that were fairly large. GREAT tee signs, some of the best I've ever seen.

Course had a good flow to it which ends at the parking lot/hole 1 area. First 3 holes were in the small patch of woods along the lake. Then it got to a few straight holes of wide open shots with tons of road and path OB in play. Made for a great challenge. It went into wooded holes after that. Tons of ace runs on the course. This is a course that will make you use every shot you have at some point.

Cons:

Got lost after 13 and finally found 14 near hole 5 pad in the woods. Never found hole 15 though. Still curious where it was. But from 14 to 16 it was a longgg walk back towards the last 3 holes near the parking lot

Only safety issue I had on the entire course was hole 18. There was an older couple in a gazebo to the right of the tee box, I gave warning before throwing but it still made me nervous if a grip lock or bad kick would occur. Also, long of 18 is a playground, luckily with it being hot and kinda early kids weren't there.

Other Thoughts:

I thought this was a great course. Good flow for the most part and a lot of fun holes. Course was well taken care of. Very glad I could break away for a hour or two to play this course. If you're ever in the area it's a must play!

Tom Triplett has something for everyone 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 12, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful park with a proper balance between open, semi-wooded, and densely wooded holes. The course is right on the right side as soon as you come into the park entrance so very easy to find hole 1 and get started.

Hole 7 brings you into the woods and from there until hole 14 you have that sense of peaceful seclusion which I always appreciate.

Multiple tees with good separation providing excellent diversity in play ability by skill level.

Tee signs are adequate. I had no issues with navigation. I had glanced at the map online before leaving my hotel which may have helped, but otherwise I never got lost or ended up in the wrong place. It seemed like most next tees are visible from the previous basket and the course had a nice flow to it and the holes have good separation from one another.

The holes all seemed fair and challenging with the only debate being hole 15 which is a little tighter than I would prefer to see on a filler hole.

Cons:

Nothing major.

Might not be too big of a deal for some, but I'm not a fan of natural tees but these are adequate even though it was wet and a little muddy. I would still prefer concrete but if you are used to natural tees these are as good as any.

If your local courses loop back after 9-holes like most of mine do, it becomes something you notice on courses that don't. Tom Triplett does not loop back so remember to bring what you need with you for the entire round.

There seems to be lacking a true signature hole, but for the most part its not too big of a deal since most of the holes are pretty solid anyways.. just no real "wow" factor that I can recall.

Other Thoughts:

I was there at the crack of dawn and had the whole course to myself. It was drizzling the entire round so not many pedestrians either. I didn't see another disc golfer until I was walking to hole 15 and someone was putting on hole 4. I encountered a couple of young deer foraging in the woods just off the fairway in the area of holes 8 - 10. That was pretty cool.

Normally I wouldn't feel fair reviewing a course in which I played the entire round in the rain, but in this case I made an exception because A) the light rain was annoying but bearable and once I got in the woods it was more like getting dripped on than actual rain. B) I was actually shooting a great round from blue tees and I think most disc golfers would agree that when you are playing well, most other things such as the weather don't necessarily detract from the experience as much as they would if shooting bad. I had a good time here despite the relentless drizzle.

Savannah has a great course here and I would certainly recommend it to anyone passing through. I know I will be back someday for sure!
