Has potential, but currently a disaster 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy access and hardly any other players so there will be zero waiting on the tee.

Cons:

The course is clearly in the midst of a redesign. When we played we assumed that it must have just been turned into an 18 hole course within the past couple of months because it was WAY unfinished. The signs were nearly all wrong and without Udisc we would not have found our way. Now that I've read the DGCR reviews closely, it's been in this condition for three years or more and it seems like they have not made much if any progress.

Several holes have no teepad and one just had a stick in the ground to mark the tee. A few holes have treacherous climbs up/down big hills that is pretty much climbing up and down a small mogul run at a ski hill. There was no other way to play the hole aside from risk twisting your ankle on the worst playing surface I've ever seen.

Tee pads: several concrete pads were put in on top of muddy slopes without much or any effort put in a stable foundation... they just thought you could throw a slab of concrete on the side of a muddy hill I guess? As expected, those tee pads are starting to slide down the hills and make teeing off that much harder because your tee pad is now a side slope.

I know they are trying to push this course to "championship" caliber, but at this stage it looks like they had a big idea and then stopped work after putting in the extra baskets and a few tees. It is just flat out unfinished now for years. There are zero lines at all many of the wooded holes. Maybe they will selectively open some lines up with a chainsaw in the future?

Other Thoughts:

Has potential but course update was never finished and is all but unplayable. I will not be back to this course unless they finish the renovation. There are too many other great courses in the Peoria area to waste time playing one that has been "under construction" for 3-4 years.

Incredible! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 29, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ The design on this course is absolutely world class. Such an incredibly diverse, challenging, enjoyable, yet fun round. When my brother and I play doubles, we typically shoot a high 900 or low 1000 rated round, but we only managed to get a single 2 for the entire 18 (maybe we were just off, but I don't think so). The tee placements and pin positions are well thought out and expertly placed. You can tell that a lot of thought went into each and every hole.

+ For being in central Illinois, the amount of geographic features were highly memorable. The course contains plenty of elevation changes on the majority of holes, a creek that come into play quite often, and plenty of trees.

+ The fun factor here is incredibly high. After each hole, I was always eagerly looking forward to the next. The 'luck' factor here is low and the better disc golf player will certainly win.

Cons:

I wanted to give this course a 4.5 so bad, but there are certainly some things holding it back.

- Some of the steps/bridges between holes were falling apart and basically unusable.

- A couple of the tees were extraordinarily uneven. Tees should be flat, not angled (e.g. teeing off downhill should have a flat tee, not one that's angled downhill)

- I'd imagine that playing here anytime other than late fall or early spring would be tricky due to foliage. The risk of losing a disc would quite high and I'd imagine that bugs here are also quite a nuisance (maybe I'm wrong).

- Due to the nature of this course (long holes + elevation changes), playing just a single round is pretty exhausting (physically) and time consuming. Not really a con, just something to be aware of.

- Tees and tee signs are still in there early stages. I'd love to see maps on the tee signs and better signage to the next tees. The tees are a mix of perfect concrete, sloped concrete, and rubber.

- The tee sign at the front of the course needs to be updated to include all 18 baskets (currently showing 9, which appears to be outdated).

o This could be a pro/con, but the course was quite empty. The pros being that you get the course to yourself and that it's quite clean. The con being that a little bit of traffic would be great in wearing down trails from the tees to the baskets and also from the basket to the next tee.

Other Thoughts:

All in all, this course is an incredible experience. I was blown away and highly impressed. It's an awesome round and I will do what I can to get back here when I can. Once I see pictures that the tees and tee signs are updated, I can update this to an easily justifiable 4.5 rated course. With long/short tees and alternate pin positions, it may be argued that this is even a 5.0 course. It truly is another gem in central Illinois!

Those amazing Plastic Addicts 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fantastic Design ... Thanks Johnnie and Kip!

Great balance of Hole Types: open and wooded, uphill and downhill, over ravines and on ravines and down ravines and up ravines and alongside ravines, next to creek and alongside creek

Fantastic mix. Par 3s, 4s, and even a 5!

Some unique Lines/Shots required for Birdie opportunities, or just to hit the landing zone

Killer Pin Placements... like death-putts, rollaways, and rollback to yous :p

Serious elevation, and steep!

Bright Orange Chainstars

Helpful Bridges and Steps, and a Platform Deck Teepad!!!

Nice big Map of the 9er by Hole #1

Cons:

Much of the course will be Muddy after the Thaw deep into the Spring

Other Thoughts:

Currently 9 Holes with one Rubber Mat Tee, are Finished and playable (will eventually be Long and Short Concrete Pads, on most holes, or Wherever the designer wants :p)

Had the good fortune to meet the course designer. Played the other 9, that are cleared, but in their early stages... So this review/score is for the Championship 18er
