Other Thoughts:

Great, challenging course. There are multiple long distance (two or more drives to get to pin). There are also plenty of shorter more technical holes. The park makes use of rolling hills without making it a tough hike. At the time of year I played, the course looked very nice. Fairways were mowed and the rough was either. Tall prairie grass/ flowers, corn, or woods. All three helped shape the course. well to make some fun shots. There are a few spots that a spotter may help due to obstructed views and rough, but I managed on my own.

Early April 2019 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 5, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I like the mix of a few more open holes with the more wooded & technically challenging holes. Also the terrain is quite interesting- holes 5 through 11 have elevation changes (8-11 most significant) that add another fun dimension to the game. Also, if you can hit reasonable but somewhat small gaps in the trees of a few key holes (usually off the tee) you are rewarded handsomely.

Cons:

There's still a lot of dead branches and other stuff on the ground of quite a few holes. To be expected of a newer course, but still annoying for footing purposes.

Other Thoughts:

A great newer addition to the courses of this area. It is much appreciated! I and a couple of my friends will be back again and again.

Fun/Challenging Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 30, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Well designed overall for the terrain available, flows easily between holes.
- Holes are a lot of fun and use the natural features well.
- When corn/brush/trees are grown in, will present added challenges. Be ready to search for discs.
- Big arm holes/technical holes (Good mixture)

Cons:

- Potential to lose discs when corn/brush/trees are grown in is high
- Slight overlap of holes (5 and 6) could lead to potential injury, heads up

Other Thoughts:

- Could make for an outstanding tournament course!
- Not a good course for beginners

Good, Potential to be very good. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 1, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great baskets! And they are a different color from the short course. This is a huge plus in my book. I'm not a fan of long and short layouts that have identical baskets since you can accidentally throw to the wrong one. Plus there is a next tee sign in the bottom of the basket which can be very helpful on your first round.

Tee signs are very nice and informative.

Nice tee pads.

This course has some really good holes. A few of the standouts from my first round- Hole 10- a 423' downhill shot that you can throw either a hyzer or an anhyzer. I went with the anhyzer route. Hole 13 is a 348' tunnel shot. With about 300' being nice and tight. Hole 15 is a 345' tunnel that is even tighter than 13.

Since there is a short course on the same property it feels like the designer was able to make the course they wanted to make without having to make it "family friendly." Which is a good thing. Too many 18 hole courses in the area cater to beginner and intermediate players.

Cons:

Overall this is a pretty good course but there are a few less than ideal parts.

This course has some overlap with the short course that can lead to some confusion on the first teepad as to who should tee off first. Also, players on the short course have to cross the long courses 1st fairway. This could be an issue once the courses start to see more traffic.

The course still needs work to be in great condition. The fairways need to be mowed much lower than they are right now. The length of the "grass" on the fairways makes walking the course a lot more tiring than it should be. From posts I have seen on Facebook the plan is to work towards getting the fairways to be grass but that is going to take time, but it will be great for the course.

Having to play three monster holes in a row can get a little boring. I get that the this is how it had to be but it is a bit of a con. I could see players who don't have big arms getting a little frustrated by the distance.

Part of the issue with those long holes is that the rough is still very thick and full of thorns and prickers (losing a disc is very easy on many of the holes.) On some holes you can be less than 5' from the basket and standing in chest deep weeds. The other part is all the corn. I am not a fan of having to throw over or around corn fields, other people might disagree but that is my opinion.

Other Thoughts:

Even as it is right now this is one of the better courses in the area and it should only get better. Hopefully lots of people will get out and play this course to beat the rough in so finding discs isn't such a pain.

If you do decide to play this course you should know that it is very new and is still kind of "raw" feeling. If you only like to play courses that are in perfect shape you might want to wait a while. Also, you should know that playing a round here can take a bit longer at other courses in the area, this isn't a negative but you should pack some extra water and snacks.

This course might not be the best course for beginners. Between the length and the lines you have to hit I could see less skilled players not having a good time here. But that is why there is a short course on the property.

For a rating I have I am going to go with a 4.0. That rating might change down the road as the course changes and I get more rounds in. I plan to play more rounds here and will update this review as things change. This course is going to be one of the must play courses in the Chicagoland area so go play it.

One last thing if you are still reading. I would strongly suggest bring some discs you don't mind losing, especially if you are going to attack the long holes. The rough is very thick and finding discs here can be difficult.

Great New Challenge in Cary! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 31, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

LONG! Tons of opportunities to air out some big drives.
SHORT! The tunnel shots are super tight, and you better have some accuracy.

Cons:

THE ROUGH WILL KILL YOU. The rough is exactly that, stay out of it; you will lose a disc in that very thick sticker infested nastiness.

Other Thoughts:

I think this course presents plenty of challenge for beginners, and will keep veterans and top players coming back for more. I'd like to see some clean up in the roughs, I'm serious when I say you will die in there. Right now the fairways are a bit too long, but I think a couple more mowings and we'll have some nice short grass to work with. Not so cart friendly due to bumpy conditions all over, but that may settle in time as well. Definitely use a spotter when you can, lost discs are a big concern. Some of the fairways are shaped by fields of corn, so after harvest this will open up considerably. My advice is get out there and play, it's an awesome course for sure.
