Private Getaway

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 25, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good shot variety with a solid mix of distances accounted for.

-Elevation present on a few holes. Just the right amount to keep things interesting.

-The lines are interesting and shots must be shaped in order to score well.

-Course is well kept

-Nice view of Hillsdale lake in the background on Hole 4.

-Fun course to work on all aspects of your game.

Hole by Hole:
1-Nice lower ceiling shot that plays downhill
2-Straight shot with 2 trees to throw between right off the box, basket is close to the pond to add to the pucker factor
3-Sweet up hill and dog leg left hole with a triple mando through the barn. Cool little hole
4-downhill hole with moderate length, hyzer line(RHBH) is the play here
5-downhill hole with a low ceiling 1/3 or the way down the fairway, open once you hit the gap
6-a blind hyzer shot through a gap, basket is close to the rough on the left
7-valley-ish shot over a drainage area, basket between the trees
8-uphill shot that is moderate in length but is deceptive
9-nice straight shot that plays to an island, basket is in the grass that is surrounded by the circle driveway

Cons:

-No signage or distances.

-Tees aren't marked, however Chuck the owner will play along with you and show you around.

-Only available by appointment, not a huge con however as the owner is very accommodating.

Other Thoughts:

This is a private course that you will need to contact the owner Chuck to set up a tee time. He is a super nice guy and will play along with you during your round to show you around. He's very enthusiastic about the sport and loves to share his property with you. We enjoyed our round here and the shot variety was nice and tested all aspects of our game. The elevation keeps things interesting but its not so brutal that you will be gassed after playing a round.

The triple mando through the barn adds a nice flavor to this course and is a good use of an existing structure to add difficulty to your round. The uphill shot on hole 8 plays longer than it looks, we were told a popular play is to throw a roller and let it climb up the hill. The island green on hole 9 will tempt you to take a run at it for birdie, but I'm sure most will throw to just before the road and then make their upshot and play for the easy 3.

All in all this is a fun course and worth a play if you are in the area. It's nice that there are players out there willing to design and allow other disc golfers the opportunity to play their private courses. Set up a time and go out and play Wind and Hills.
