Solid, fun course - needs some love

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 6, 2024 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Everything in the other reviews covers the pros perfectly - great property for a course, has great baskets and pads, a huge area with no other activities to interfere, even with walkers on the paths as it doesn't get much traffic at all.

Cons:

Soon, hopefully very soon, the local HOA will release funds to clean/repair what's needed. Until then it's rough and has unsafe bridge crossings.

Other Thoughts:

Why I wrote this 'review' - I would like any local or traveling trusted reviewers to contact me to set up a time to play here. I am working with the "Lifestyle Coordinator" of Windsong to not just clean up, but improve this course as much as they are willing to fund. They have some big ideas but also no experience with disc golf or events. Before any big changes are made, however, I'd like the input from others and to discuss design improvements.

Windsong Ranch

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 30, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-- Risk/reward is good. A creek is in play, and you've got throws over the creek and alongside it. There are also a few holes where the creek danger is somewhat hidden from the tee by trees or tall grass. The shortest hole on the course has a tight line with the creek on 3 sides of it. You've also got options for tight lines through trees directly to the basket or a more-open but less direct path to many baskets.
-- Good variety. Some longer more open holes for the bigger-armed players and some shorter holes with tight lines.
-- Stone tee signs that give you necessary information. They also have a QR code to a disc golf survey.
-- Stone benches.
-- Long, concrete tee pads.
-- DGA baskets in good shape.
-- Basically a disc golf only area. Houses border the property, and there is a walking path. The disc golf course stays away from those things when possible, but the walking path comes into play several times.

Cons:

-- No parking, map, water or restroom.
-- This is a private course, and you need to be either a Windsong resident or a guest of a resident to play.
-- Navigation isn't great. That isn't generally a huge issue because you either live there or are playing with someone who lives there.
-- Creek crossings are sketchy. A couple of bridges are nice, but you cross the creek several times with no bridge. A poor throw can cause you real trouble with creek crossings.
-- Very little elevation.
-- Course was pretty muddy when I played. It's difficult to know for sure, but this appears to be more about the land than recent weather.

Other Thoughts:

-- The QR code on the tee signs sends you to a survey about the course. You'll have to plug in a Windsong address to fill out the survey.
-- Course redesign/improvement is under consideration as is opening the course to more play, perhaps even tournaments.

Hush Hush

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 30, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Really cool stone tee signs seem like they are vandalism resistant and give you necessary information. They also have a QR code to a disc golf survey, more on that in the "Other Thoughts" section below
- Stone benches are pretty, sturdy, and also seem vandalism resistant
- Long, concrete tee pads which is nice because some holes require power shots
- DGA baskets are in great shape, and catch as well as double chains can
- The longer more open grass holes are good for distance throws for you long armed types
- Lots of risk/reward with how holes are shaped. You can go over the creek which is tighter and shorter or take the longer but much safer play
- A lot of the lines are tighter than they first appear and after looking back at the tee pad from the basket you discover there are more routes than once thought
- In a few spots baskets are harder to see so there is orange ribbon tied to baskets in these sections
- Lots of risk of going into the creek, it seems as if the shorter the hole the more risk there is. The shortest hole on the course has a tight line with the creek on 3 sides of it
- Even though you can see the road and houses and such I could still close my eyes, focus on DG, and believe I was in a much more secluded, rural area

Cons:

- There is no parking anywhere near the course, new construction has taken over the old parking lot I'm told
- Since there is no parking there really is no hole one as you just start on whatever hole is closest to where you walked in from and go from there
- Not enough bridges over the creek that runs through the course so you are forced to ford the creek over stones/through the mud(not fun at times at least for me) or walk around
- Being that you have to be a resident of the Windsong subdivision or be sponsored by someone who is the course isn't very accessible to the public
- I was told this course was once threatened of being pulled and I still saw some litter on the course which may or may not be from disc golfers but will eventually be blamed on disc golfers. If any course is deserving of players carrying trash bags while they play to pick up litter it's this one.
- If I didn't have a local guiding me on this course I wouldn't have been able to navigate it without Udisc
- I like courses with more elevation on them

Other Thoughts:

There are QR codes on the tee signs right now that send you to a survey about the course and whether you're a fan of it and want to see it continued, improved, etc. If you're a resident or know a resident please take the time to fill out the survey on the tee sign and make sure this course continues in the future because it is a really good course and I even see a 4.5 in potential out here. Treat her right, don't litter, if you see litter, pick it up! Bring a trash bag with you!
