Lightning discs? What happened here?

GGGT has a bunch of HX-2 in high test resin. I always liked that disc. I won't buy them though... I'll just keep throwing my OOP Ascents.

From their facebook page:

Guess its official, I wonder who bought it. It's about all I have in my bag since that's what I started with (gift starter bag) and simply upgraded to their prostyle plastics as I went. I wonder if the new owner will restart manufacturing them...

man, bumping this thread jinxed me. In the last 2 outings I lost my 2 primary drivers:lightning prostyle driver #1 and flyer #1 into the water. And I hadn't lost anything in a long time. I still see a few of these available online; but I figure now is the time to try something else. Anybody want to suggest something comparable to those 2 discs from other manufacturers?

A Valkarie and a Leopard will see you well for those two.

I met a guy this week in Dallas that was running a charity tournament that had recently made Lightning discs in a "champion" like plastic. He said they are being made by the new owner.

I wouldn't give up on them yet. Their best days may be yet to come. The discs looked really nice. I still bought an older "prostyle" U-2 (176 gm!!!). Sweet find.

The event was called "DiscGames XII" run by Randy Mecca. It was an all day event held to help the physically challenged. He had a full lineup of Lightning discs. The new plastic was a big surprise.

I must've missed this thread. I Love the old plane stamps. Totally cool and the DB5 basket was/is the best yard basket you could get for less than $200.

That's interesting, I hope we hear more about it.
I guess these are the discs you were talking about:

Champ #1&2 hyzer mmmmmm

Also if the U2 in prostyle or similar comes back I will consider putting with it full time.

This is an interesting turn of events with a new owner, I hope they can start getting some press out soon. Glad to see the legacy won't end, even if you don't throw the molds, they were a pioneer.

...I don't think the PC police would mind the different lines, I loved their airplane themes.....

Didn't the airplane stamps and names disappear so Lightning could sell in the Japanese market? That was the report circulating in the outlands when I could no longer find my favorite Lightning mold because I didn't know what it was renamed as.

They definitely renamed a lot of them. I actually still keep a #3 hyzer in the bag, which is the rename of the F-18 hornet. I actually thought when I looked at the PDGA site that I was using an illegal disc by accident until i looked it up and saw they had renamed the disc.

Would be cool to see a resurgence of the plane stamps again, they could include aircraft from different countries, the Mirage, Zero, Stukka, etc would be cool along with a mix of US warplanes.

I have a bunch of old lightning plane stamps of various models. PM me if you would like to purchase some at uninflated prices. I plan to keep only one of each model.
