2010 BIG D in the Desert Comp!! DGCR !

Great conditions here yesterday. More of the same predicted today. Everyone is hoping to see their throws "Hook Up!". Results are posted at Discgolfvalues. https://www.discgolfvalues.com/BigDIXresults.html This competition has now produced the most 200 meter throws in one event, let alone one day.

Got to meet Klatch. He is the real deal. He is learning to throw with this kind of wind. I will bet he will "hook up" today.

Today there will be eliminations. All throwers in all divisions will throw Round 1. Then the Open will be cut to 8 players for the Semi-finals -Round 2. Then top four for Open plus Women, Masters and Grandmasters will throw in the Finals - Round 3.

Many of the throwers this year are new to these types of throwing conditions. I imagine we will see improvements today as these guys learn to "Hook Up!" Most of the big guns will be staying for the all out attempts on Monday, so stay tuned.

anyone hear if the record got busted today?

I'm thinking not with the crappy weather

This is what the DGV competitor info page says:

Weather and scheduling:
If we have issues with rain or water retention for the lake bed, we are not allowed to use Ivanpah at all if it is wet. The back up site of Roach Dry Lake is no longer an option! If it rains we have major issues! The only other option would be to move to El Mirage Dry Lake about 200 miles away. Let's hope this does not need to happen.

If we can't compete on Saturday the schedule will change to Sunday qualifying and Monday as the finals. If we can't compete on Sunday as well the finals will be pushed to Monday. If we can't compete on Monday that will be a lost chance to break the record and that day will not be made up.

And it's raining there now...and rained a little last night...so the competition might be cooked

I heard Trey was great on the practice day, throwing 697 ft, but the wind hurt him on competition day. Not bad for a guy who has been playing less than a year!

GG is a beast, back to back 200m+ throws. To bad his final qualifying was 170 something, sometimes a shank is a shank...

For the record. Ken Jarvis(all 160 lbs of him) is a mutant. Congrats on the great show boys.

kachtz i cant decide if i love you or hate you for having a gun like that.

good luck bro.:)

If you met him there's no way you could hate him. He's an extremely nice guy, has a cannon, and as soon as he putts better, any course with less than 600 foot holes will be pitch and putts.

A front came through on Sunday and cooled things down. After a brief rain shower/hail storm, throwing started. Cooler temps prevented much"thermal" lifting and winds were more steady.

Monday was cooler still, but the steady winds allowed for a nice practice session. SoCal Pro Paul McBeth drove up to give it a try and was able to officially throw 199 meters. None of the younger guns came out to throw on Monday. Christian Sandstrom had the longest throw of the day at 210 meters with Erin H. and Ken J throwing 204 and Mark J throwing 201 meters.

This event is usually held in the spring under better weather conditions. The event was moved to follow the USDGC. This was done to allow Europeans a chance to attend after coming to the US. However, since only two Euros showed up, the bi-annual event will likely move back to the spring in 2012.

I doubt you will see much video. Only one player received written permission from the BLM and it was granted for personal use only.

Why don't the organizers film this? People would love to watch it and it helps grow the sport.
