Playing since 1999, when my college ball golf course opened up an adjacent disc golf course. Bought a DX Eagle from the pro shop for less than the price of the ball golf greens fee--instantly hooked! Finally got serious not too long ago and try to sneak in 3 or 4 rounds a week. Work has me travelling around KY, IN, and TN so I regularly get to play the best the area has to offer.
Personal Top 5:
1. Iffy Hollers (KY) -- only set up once or twice a year on 700 acres of rural pasture land with extreme elevation. It's basically a compilation of epic signature holes. Iffy dwarfs all other courses I've ever played. 27 hole adventure golf that will not only test your game, but your endurance. A round of golf for a 4 pack will take about 6-7 joyous hours
2. Lake Marshall- The Lions (VA) -- This incredible property has it all: open, wooded, tunnels, water, islands, extreme elevation. This checks all of the boxes I can think of for the ultimate disc golf experience. There's also 2 other stellar tracks on the property to make it a fantastic destination course complex.
3. Idlewild (KY) -- this place has been slipping over the years but the improvements made for the 2017 DGPT event (baskets, trees, greens, etc) keep this technical beast at the top
4. Harmon Hills (TN) -- wonderful private piece of land in the Appalachian foothills with great variety
5. Bailey DGC (CO) -- Beautiful and peaceful mountain disc golf with insane elevation, beautiful rock outcroppings, trees, and great throwing lines.
Honorable Mention -- my private home course. Possibly biased here, but my 14ish holes in rural southern Indiana are a delight. Deeply wooded with ravine shots and tiki holes mixed in.
Shout-out to eastern Tennessee! I know there are plenty of great places to play out there, but there are sooo many stellar options between Knoxville and Johnson City.
