We made our own signs while developing our course so we could change them easily, if needed. We made ours using MS Excel, then had them printed on thick paper, ran them through my laminator, then tacked them to a nearby tree. I think we got a year out of them before the course was finalized...
For the par 2 course at the Flying Armadillo, the holes average around 100 ft in length. To determine the difficulty of the course, we followed the close range par guidelines. If I remember right, only a gold level player is expected to consistently get up and down at a distance of 100 ft or...
Another option might be to play some of the South Austin courses. Circle C and Searight could both be played on one day, with time left over for a stop at Disc Nation. Roy G, Met Center, and Zilker could be combined on another day. For day 3 you could travel a bit south to San Marcos and...
No, this hole is already one of the easiest on the course to ace. But on the other hand, we tell players to play by whatever rules they'd like. Some play it as a par 3, some ignore the mandos altogether, and if anyone would like to count hitting the tone poles as an ace, then that's cool too.
Yes! Aces have been made with a ricochet off each of the inner four telephone "tone" poles. Not sure about the fifth pole, but I would imagine that someone has hit an Ace off of that one as well.
If you roll it into the slot track with enough speed, it will go in most of the time. Same with a backhand throw that rides along the top of the slot rail. Thrown with enough speed, it will probably go in too.
Some of the possible ace throws can be seen in this video...
Hole 13, the Ultimate Gimmick Hole, at the Flying Armadillo. If you don't like gimmicky holes, you won't like this one. You can go straight for the basket through the blue grate, try for a ricochet off one of the four truck hoods, hit the blue backboard, throw directly at the funnel, throw a...
I hear the same thing about aces. As in, I'll make an ace ... when armadillos fly.
In fact, there was even a poem written about it ...
When Armadillos Fly
One day I will make an ace, if I try really hard
I'll watch some Youtube videos and practice in my yard
I'll finally get that x-step...
My son owns and operates a successful P2P disc golf facility in a location surrounded by 50+ free courses. His traffic and profitability have been steadily increasing since he started up six years ago. Last year he was able increase his greens fees, membership fees, and camping fees with no...
Unlike DGCR, Udisc focuses on finding courses, providing layouts, hole lengths and recording scores. Reviews are an afterthought. There are no established guidelines for writing reviews and no mechanism in place to facilitate comprehensive, well thought out reviews. The reviews themselves are...
I agree. The highest rated course on Udisc in the state of Texas is the Flying Armadillo par 2 putt-putt course. It's not because it's a particularly beautiful course. It fails to meet most of the design requirements that courses rated well on this site typically possess. The one word that...
The Flying Armadillo Disc Golf Club 2015 Mixed Doubles Winners is now on display at my local art gallery. I'm not sure what folks who don't know what disc golf is will make of this. Clay and acrylic, 2015, 4'x16"x16"
Google Maps shows the distances between points, has an elevation profile, you can add color coded vector objects for things like tee pads, baskets, and flight paths, text elements to note distances, hole numbers, etc. Depending on the particular property, it's also possible to view historical...
Yes, the Flying Armadillo putt-putt course is gimmicky. It's actually the most gimmicky course in existence. No question. There's even a hole called the Ultimate Gimmick Hole, a title that I believe it deserves. That being said, it's also the most fun 18 hole course on the planet. It's a...
