-- Starts and ends strong. No. 1 basket is in a stand of trees that makes you consider your approach line. No. 9 is the shortest hole on the course (167 feet), but low limbs/leaning trees force a really low shot, adding some challenge.

-- No seating at the tees (not a big deal on a short, 9-hole course).
-- Two tees (5 and 7) are within the putting circle of the previous basket, and No. 3 is 35 feet from No. 2 basket.
-- No. 9 ends a long way from No. 1.
-- Course is pretty short. No holes are as long as 300 feet, and two are 200 feet or shorter.
-- Tees are marked by paver stones in the ground. The have the hole distance on them (which is good, except for No. 1, which is listed as 200 feet but is really 240), but they are hard to find. The map on dgcoursereview (or UDisc) is helpful, but I don't want to spend that much time on my phone on the course.
-- Volleyball court is in the right edge of the No. 3 fairway.

-- As you head east toward the church, turn left into the second driveway. No. 1 is immediately on your right. The basket is to the north, in the trees between the driveway and the road. The course then plays counter clockwise around the property. No. 9 ends on the other side of the buildings.
-- Salado seems like a cool small town. There are some nice restaurants and two breweries, so spending an afternoon here should be fun.

Beautiful and well-maintained piece of property. The impression I got is that the church grounds are mowed regularly and the course benefits.
Shade on most of the holes and the trees providing it also create interesting lines and choices. The deer also seemed to enjoy the shade, as I saw many.

Course works its way counterclockwise around the main church buildings.
A good variety of shot lengths and shot shapes for such a short course.
Close to the Interstate and could be a nice, short, shady stop on a stressful driving day.

Tees are marked with stones in the ground and some of these are overgrown. Flags or (ideally) tee signs would be helpful.
No signage of any kind, that I saw.
All the holes are very short.
If anything else were happening on the property (youth or kids activities, etc) some holes would certainly be unplayable. The course takes up almost all of the land without building or parking lots on it.

This would be a good place for kids and families from the area to learn the game and enjoy time together. It's also an easy place to stretch and throw on a brief driving stopover.

-there is definitely poison ivy in the copse of trees where basket 1 is located; it had me on the lookout the rest of my round

-the tees are ambiguous: the look is very different from the left side or right side of the stone on some holes
-some of the lines seem a little fluky; holes 4, 6, 7 have very tight "lines" with very low ceilings

Salado is a cool, little town with a few trendy looking shops, restaurants, and breweries on the main strip. The Salado United Methodist Church is down the street and has this little 9 hole course on the property.

The stone tee markers are not obvious if you're just walking around with no idea where the course starts. They're not that hard to find once you know where to look though and the layout becomes fairly obvious once you get on track. I made a map and posted it here so you should get the idea. The markers have the hole number and distance. The distances are tough to read and I'm not sure if they're very accurate. You can change the difficulty of your shot on some holes by throwing from the left or the right of the tee marker.

There are lots of oaks and cedars on the property and most of the holes are pretty wooded. The first 3 holes are a bit more open with a little more air to work around a few bigger trees. The rest of the course features very low ceilings and some pretty tight lines. It has probably grown in a bit since the course was first built but a few holes, noticeably hole 7, have somewhat fluky lines. That said, they are mostly short and a good drive gets you a putt on every hole (except maybe 7, you can go over the top). The group of trees on hole 1 has poison ivy around the base of several trees, be careful there. I didn't see much else the rest of my round but it had me on the lookout.

The course is fairly fun and 2 or 3 rounds would make a nice compliment to what seemed like good food and drinks down the street. I regret not having time to stop for a beer or food but I plan to come back sometime and make an afternoon of it.

I always double check UDisc for courses not listed on this web site in case I come across little gems like this.

On street view, you can see the baskets from 2015 so this course has gone unnoticed for several years.

Course has a good mix of open and tight fairways. Lots of large trees to throw around and under.

The course works it's way around the property from the South East corner of the property and you finish next to the old church on the South West side of the property.

You have wide open shots like holes 1 and 2, to low ceiling shots and shots between tree's.

For the most part there are not too many danger shots. Hole 3 might be the biggest problem. I could not "go for it" because a family was playing in the volley ball court. I just laid it up, then waited to throw over them when they were retrieving the ball.

Would I play here again.

yes I would. The course is about a mile off of 35 in a historic town. Need a break between Waco and Austin, this is the spot. I know I will play here again someday.
