Pros:
+state park setting: maintenance, picnic benches, restrooms
+plenty of parking
+9 hole loop
+views of the lake (through the trees)
+elevated basket 3 in the tree stump
+mature pine trees
Cons:
-holes near picnic tables & across paths
-other users
-cheap portable baskets
-small rubber mats as tees; better than nothing
Other Thoughts:
short, but uses trees for shot shaping/tunnels; fairly wide lines to hit. i would doubt a intermediate player could find a bogey, but i have seen a few 3 putt inside the circle.
navigation; when i played only 1&2 had tee signs/posts, if they all had these nav wouldn't be a problem; hopefully they put these markers on the rest of the tees. holes are somewhat close together so could be possible to play to wrong basket or go to wrong tee. need to pay attention to map. i parked in the riverside parking lot & started on hole 5. so then i went to wrong tee (4) after 5. tee 4 to basket 6 is a pretty fun 310ft shot & really tough if you play path and beyond ob, so i would guess there is more good safari golf.
wallowa lake is where the road ends; not on the way to anything. usually this means you would be all alone, but on summer weekends (when i played) it is a pretty busy park and i had to wait on multiple occasions for clueless people crossing the course & got some cheers from the picnickers for a good shot.
there is the restroom is in the middle of the course, so it's likely you will have to wait for people crossing to use the bathrooms. the amphitheater is close to hole 5, so if there is something going on that uses it most of the course would be unplayable and overrun with people. lots of picnic tables on the perimeter of holes to be wary of if in use.
beautiful area with the lake surrounded by mountains. plenty of other activities to do in the area: hiking, lake recreation, mini golf, tram ride, camping.
nice little rec course with fun short shots in the fresh air.
