Foli Park DGC is a beginner friendly 9 hole course just outside Chicagoland. The area the course sits on is pretty much DG exclusive. The walking path snakes along through most of the course though. Seems to be a popular place for people to fish. Easy enough to avoid those other two activities. Be aware of them though.

The baskets are shiny new Discatchers. These are all in great shape and caught perfectly. They still look brand new even. One basket and pin placement per hole.

The flow of the course is pretty easy to follow for the most part. It's a disjointed layout due to the available space for the course. That in itself kind of aids in the easy flow. It plays between a pond and a fairly dense woodline. It funnels you to where you need to head next.

There are tee signs here. They're mounted on short 4x4's and have the most basic of info. Hole #, par and distance on a small metal sign. Every hole is within sight from the teeing area so a hole map is overkill really. These are unspectacular, but completely adequate signs.

The hole lengths are all on the shorter side. Most of them do offer some sort of challenge. Be it trees, OB paths and possibly the OB pond. The pond would be hard to find for most players with even a little experience. It is there though, lurking on the edge of your sight line. Waiting.

The layout is easy to follow. The layout doesn't start or end real close to the parking lot. Hole 9 dumps you off a decent ways away actually. Just an odd shaped piece of land to fit a 9 hole course onto. There's more walking than is ideal, but it's not a deal breaker by any means.

The walking path comes into play on a number of holes. And for such a small park it was quite busy. The majority of the course plays near or over that path. If yo're smart and patient it shouldn't be an issue.

The pond can come into play on a few holes. It shouldn't really, but it is possible.

Short holes. All of them. Great lengths for beginners. I don't throw far and it even felt short for me. I threw putters off of every tee If I recall correctly. If I did that it means it's really short.

Fun little course that's geared towards newer players. Maybe. It's also the only way they could get 9 holes here.

It's a pretty fun little course though. Not a must play, but it's well worth playing if nearby, if only for the ace runs. Most players will need to bring a putter or two. Fun little nine that I'd play again.

A real beginner course. No hole over 180ft. All pitch and putt.

Boy Howdy do I wish we had a button on DGcoursereview.com that whoever uploads the course could check mark that would segregate the course out as a beginner course. (majority sub 180ft holes)

The course is set up next to a little lake. Well manicured grounds. A great little place to learn to throw a disc without much risk of losing it. you can approach each hole throwing forehand or backhand only.

We need more of this type of course and honestly more players should be practicing shot shapes and forehand/backhand touch shots.

I will nit pick.

1. The 2nd hole is an opportunity for a new player to throw a disc into the woods or in a building. Not something you want as a beginner course option.
2. After hole 9 you end up as far away from your car as you could get before heading back.

The ratings/reviews that say this is a great beginner course then mention its so short and rate it super low is a contradiction. It's like saying all cars are garbage compared to an F1 car because they are slow. You have to rate the course for what it is trying to accomplish.

This course is not aimed at even confident rec players however I would argue that more people should be playing this type of course to learn to throw a disc straight with finesse.

A competent player should be -6 to -9 here with just a putter

This course is perfect if you are just starting out or if you want to bring your family to come play. Some very short technical throws and easy distance. Mostly covered by large shade trees.

If you're a big time disc golfer this is not the course for you. If you want to work on your weaker style of throws play here.

Geese love this course.

- Course is set in a small park that is really just grassy areas surrounding a pond . Walking trail is present on a few holes, and people possibly fishing, but interference should be minimal.
- A couple holes have trees to worry about, especially the well guarded basket on #5 and again on #6. One hole plays fairly close to the pond, which is aesthetically pleasing if nothing else.
- Very slight elevation changes here and there, not Illinois-flat, but pretty flat.
- Tee signs are easy to spot, baskets are great. Grass around tees is undisturbed at this point, so no mud to worry about.

- A few of the holes are really cramped, especially 3-4-5 all sharing the same grass area. Probably never an issue since the holes are so small.

- Pretty decent little putter course... for beginners! Not a bad course by any means, but those hole lengths are so, so small.
