Very poor design 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice baskets
Good signage
2 baskets on every hole

Cons:

Almost all of the holes have other activities going on that can be a risk to other persons or yourself...

Two holes near a public pool
One hole throws over picnic tables and a pavilion
One hole throws over a volleyball court
Four holes play in a very close proximity to baseball fields, including a basket location between two fields that requires you to throw over one.
Two holes play adjacent two a highway
Two holes play adjacent to a backroad that had decent traffic
Last hole plays either into a soccer field or over the parking lot about 15 feet from a building

Other Thoughts:

I don't write a lot of reviews but I feel like there was a serious lack of judgement in the approval to put this course in. In no way this is a championship level course, which means it was designed with new and intermediate players in mind. With that being the case you are guaranteed that there will be many errant shots, and with the close proximity of other activities/hazards I believe it introduces risk.

In my honest opinion it is an injury and lawsuit waiting to happen.

Enjoyed this course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

- well mowed
- good baskets
- mowed fairways where possible
- didn't just place baskets out in the open

Cons:

- a few holes may not be playable if other park activities are in progress
- no map (at that time)
- no tee signs
- little walk between 3 and 4 as well as 6 and 7
- scorecard distances didn't seem accurate

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed playing this park and I'm glad there wasn't a lot going on while I was there. They need to get the tee sign for 9 replaced so you don't have to guess. It would also be good if they remeasured the distances for their scorecards, especially since they changed some holes. Overall, I'd recommend stopping here if you're in the area.

Pros:

Some good holes to throw. Signs are very easy to spot (the ones that are there). Lots of restaurants near by.

Cons:

Layout. No sign for 9. The change over from 4 to 5 hole is not very fluent.

Other Thoughts:

Maps? Par information for each hole? Without this website, kind of impossible to know.

CG got a DGC!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 23, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

It's in my home town! The course is great for beginners. The baskets are pretty much straight in front of you but they require a mix of shots. Nearby bathrooms are sometimes open but if not there is usually a port-o-john somewhere in the park. Course runs past a swimming pool, skate park and playground so it is ideal for little ones. Stroller friendly. Pet friendly but they are probably supposed to be on leashes (I don't think you will have to worry about unleashed pets until you get near hole #8 and #9 since they run along the side of Highway 177). Brand new Gopher QuikShot baskets. Very easy to follow. There is a box on a sign near hole #1 that has scorecards/maps.

Cons:

Grass tees. 9 holes. Holes #3 & #4 run in between baseball fields. Holes #8 & #9 run along the side of Highway 177 so you have to be careful with your shots or little ones (It is only 30 mph right there but cars start speeding up on their way out of town). Course cannot be played if multiple baseball games are going on.

Other Thoughts:

Shorter course so it can easily be played quickly if you are on your way through town. Just a few miles North of Council Grove is the CG Reservoir; camping, boating, fishing, etc. Nice little town. Make sure and eat at the Saddlerock Cafe located 1 block South of the fire station on East Main, tasty homestyle diner.
