Reviewed: Played on:Oct 2, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

present when a nearby course is under repair, near a coffee shop and misc vendors. a good lunch-break course for those nearby.

Cons:

short, will disappoint if you expect more than a neighborhood course

Other Thoughts:

I like the mandos, but I consider them optional anyway--don't play what you don't like. i think it's a smart way to add strokes to a very short course. i even like the out-of-line double-mando on 7 because i'm one that likes to find unusual lines.. in fact i even have one to make a run at that-- a tomahawk that swings out and back and has the potential to skip in =)

Interesting Design 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 7, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Metal baskets (not standard design).
Clean cut fairways.
Nice concrete tees.
Small town feel.
Easy play.

Cons:

Short holes. Given the space, it seems the design could of been switched up a bit. I hear there are other things in the works so that might have hindered the layout.

Mandos on a few holes are just plain dumb. The intended line is there so no need for a mando way down the fairway near the basket. I get forcing a line but not at the expense of the spirit of the game.

Hole 1 double mando is great although I'd put the right mando on the telephone pole. The double mando on hole 2 needs to go. The mando on 4 is fine but clearing up top needs to be done so that a high shot can be made. Hole 6 mando should move up to the middle three of the three trees on the right side. And hole 7 is crazy. I'm not sure what happened there.

The uniqueness of the baskets loses all credibility once you putt on them. These baskets don't hold in disc well. Easy fix if you add some looser chains.

Watch for debris with your steps.

Lots of briars in the rough.

Other Thoughts:

The course is pretty neat and given time, it should get better. But the designers should take notes and make necessary changes to improve the course.

Interesting Course With Lots of Potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 5, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Baskets are unique and well-made. All baskets were done by a welding class at a local technical college.
-Fairways are cut out and most holes have a fair line.
-This course plays so quickly that you could easily get a round in on lunch break.
-Low course traffic means no waiting on tee pads.
-Taylors Mill is very easy to navigate by following the spray paint.
-All tee pads are concrete with a yellow stripe indicating the front of the box.

Cons:

-The designer of this course got too happy with mandos as there are mandos on every hole except holes 3, 8, and 9. All of these mandos are unnecessary as they arbitrarily add difficulty and are not being used to protect a certain area or another fairway. The double mando on hole 7 is the worst because it is not lined up with the tee pad and is way too tight.
-All baskets have single chains which are too tight and cause some putts to bounce off rather than catching. A second set of outer chains are needed.
-Holes are too short and the course can be played entirely with a putter.
-Hole 2 has lots of construction debris (Old concrete, wood, chain link fence, rebar, nails, etc.) from the mill in the fairway that could be harmful.
-Lots of briars in the rough. Wear long pants!

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this is an interesting, short course that has plenty of potential. I wish there were some holes where you could air it out and I wish there were fewer unnecessary mandos. The baskets are not perfect, but catch ok. This course could be better if expanded to 18 and had some longer holes. Overall, this course has the fun factor, but lacks a real challenge and will leave experienced players wanting more.
