Better Ice Up Your Arm! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 12, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

The disc golf course at the Southern Oregon VA Hospital grounds sits on three separate sections of the VA's front lawns. The two lawns in front are fairly narrow being squeezed in between the hi-way and one of the streets in the large VA complex.

The course features Discatchers baskets with small numbers which you can't read from any distance. Each basket is set in the center of a cleared circle approx. 20 feet across. The tee pads are natural with a 6 ft. White board at the front. They too, are cleared of all natural growth in a circle around the pads. I'm not sure of the purpose but it's very clean looking.

The first 4 holes play in the large expanse of lawn. Then 5 & 6 play in the next lawn area. Then 7-8-9 play in a smaller area by the old E-B building. I found them to have the most personality of any holes on the course. # 8 was an interesting hyser shot around the E-B building to a basket tucked well back into the bushes.

Then 9 was a 255' possible ACE run.

Cons:

Too many holes were simply wide open "grip it and rip it" for most of us, mere mortals.

For a 9 hole course, it's a long trek from end to end.

Other Thoughts:

Although I personally wasn't all that excited about the course, I'm surprised that the local disc community hasn't embraced it more. I'm sure the cannon armed locals would love these wide open spaces.

This is one of those courses where I'm not convinced they hit their target audience, in this case, rehabbing vets. I doubt very much whether many of them would enjoy this "big" of a course. I think a smaller pitch and putt would have provided the majority of them with a better therapy/more enjoyable experience and introduction to disc golf.
