The course at Northwood community church is 9 holes of decent disc golf. The grounds were well maintained on our visit and the course is permanent and free to play. Nice little spot for a quick round or two. There's lots of space out here to if you'd want to get some field work in.

The tee signs are nice and large with all the basic info you'll need. They have a basic hole map, par and distance. Each one also has a description of any applicable OB that's in play. Most baskets are visible from the tee some it's pretty simple to figure out, but these signs are still nice to have.

The baskets were mostly Mach II's but a couple looked to be a little different. Not a huge deal since they all seemed to at least be older Mach's. Nothing special about them, but they get the job done. One pin position per hole.

Nice, sizeable concrete pads on every hole. There's even two pads for hole 9, featuring a short one which let's you avoid throwing over the pond. Really nice. There's not too many churchs I've played that have concrete pads.

The pond comes into play on hole 2 off to the right of the basket, which I managed to throw into unfortunately. Then there's the water carry on hole 9's long tee and could come into play with a shank on 9's short tee. Wind will also likely be a frequent challenge out here. It certainly was on the day we played. Solid amount a undulation throughout the early section too.

The course starts and ends pretty close to the southwest corner of the main parking lot, which has a nice kiosk featuring a well drawn out course map.

A lack of obstacles is one of the biggest cons to the course imo. There's just not much for trees out there to used.

Hole's 6 and 7 are not too safe. Hole 6 has you throwing at a blind basket over a wooded, swampy looking area. You'd never see if anyone was near the basket without walking all the way over there first. Not only that, the basket plays too close to the intersection for a hole design like this. Not impressed with that hole. Hole 7 plays back over a gap in that same wooded area. Much better location for this basket at least. The only problem is you're throwing right over a sidewalk on the other side. Not as bad as hole 6, but still not great.

A little long for beginners. Nothing too crazy, but it's no pitch and putt either. Also the baskets are mounted pretty piss poorly on most of the holes. I don't think there was one single level one. Hole 1's looks like it's slightly elevated. I highly doubt that's intentional though.

Even with the couple safety issues I listed it's actually a pretty fun little course. I doubt it's ever too busy out there with all the other great options in the area. Worth a stop if you're in the area. It'll only take 30 minutes or so for most to play a round. Just don't expect to be wowed or anything.

-- Water is in play on three of nine holes: No. 2 (288 feet) has water 20 feet right and about 25-30 feet behind the basket. Except the basket was missing for more than eight months; according to a course conditions update, the basket is now there but installed incorrectly. No. 6 (330 feet) has you throwing through/over weeds/bushes/trees that love to grab discs and make them disappear. There is a small creek/ditch somewhere in there. No. 9 has two tees. The long tee (357 feet) gives you about a 300-foot water carry. The short tee (270 feet) plays parallel to the lake/pond on your right, but your disc could still find the water.
-- Beautiful covered gazebos with seating throughout the course.

-- Filler holes. No. 5 (300 feet) is wide open and plays to a basket that is leaning badly. No. 8 (320 feet) is also wide open.
-- Navigation is not terrible, but there are some long walks, and I had to search for a few tee pads. Twice you cross a four-lane road/driveway (5-6 and 7-8).
-- No. 8 has a hidden danger of losing a disc. A sewer/drainage access (plenty big enough to swallow a disc) is short/left of the basket and is not visible from the tee.

-- The hole info on here from 2016 says "Hole 9's alternate tee does play over the lake. During the summer there is a large fountain that sprays into the line of right handers throwing backhand hyzer lines." None of this was evident on my visit in July 2022.
-- The course is behind the church, which means something of a hike to get to the first tee from the parking lot.
-- For a church course that is likely targeted to new players and church members, this course has a lot of length. Six of nine holes (not counting the short tee on 9) are 300 feet or longer, and no holes are as short as 250 feet.

This is a great area to have a course for the neighborhood.
Good use of lake with the holes designed around it.
Nice open area to practice any throw you want.
Grounds are usually up kept very well because the church owns the land.
One can reasonably play at night because of church lights in parking lot aluminate the surround area. (Done this already)
Nice to have a course in north Peoria.
Only church I only that has Disc Golf on their property.

Some baskets seem to be placed as "filler holes" to get to another tee pad.
The length between basket and tee pad on some of the holes are unnecessarily long. Like between 2 and 3, basket to tee pad, there is enough space to have a nice hole put between them. The space between basket and tee pads seem to be there just to take you to another "best case scenario" basket placement, instead of making the course flow from hole to hole.
Long holes seem unfriendly to beginners to the sport. There are plenty of courses in the area that are really good for intermediate to pros. A shorter course with "some", 1 or 2 long holes would have been better in this community.
Some holes are really susceptible to wind gusts.

This is my church I attend. So when I heard they were planning on putting in a disc golf course as an outreach to the community, I was excited. There is plenty of land to put 9 to 18 baskets. Although, the lack of trees and natural obstacles would make the layout a bit of a challenge, it was totally possible to have a unique and enjoyable course.

While happy with the course put in, it seems the designer missed the mark when it came to the full potential of the land. I know a ton of players want multi shot holes, but as stated in the "Neg" there are plenty of course nearby and within 15 - 20 mins of this course that you can "air it out". This course should've been designed with the beginner to intermediate in mind. Some baskets could've had some landscaping around them to enhance and enrich the play of the course. The course is reasonable, but seeing the potential of what it could've been is a bit disappointing.

Great for beginners wanting to get a grasp on the sport.
Short and quick rounds make this a great local course for people wanting to squeeze in a few before heading home for the day but who don't have a lot of time.

Can be a bit difficult on windy days.
Only 9 holes. Can be played multiple time for a long round but some might say it would be repetitive.

I personally enjoy this course very much. It's very close to home and I basically play it every afternoon after getting off work before picking up my kids at the school down the road. It's always a challenge with the winds constantly blowing in a different direction. It would be in nice to eventually see a few more holes being placed around the grounds but the locals need to prove it is used enough and that we can keep the course free of litter and vandalism.
