Great local course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Local to me and well kept public course
-concrete tee pads
-easy to locate baskets/tee pads
-good variety of shots/OB/mando to avoid
-not much chance to lose a disc to water or overgrowth
-pin locations can change (A or B) to add variety
-Ideal Discs store very close by!!

Cons:

-very busy during weekends
-lots of trees to hit if you're new-ish

Other Thoughts:

This is my local stomping ground course. I really enjoy playing here and it is not too challenging to a beginner. Provides great practice for anhyzer/sidearm shots and obstacle avoidance, whether that be trees, mando, or OB. Mando's are identified by arrows on trees. OB are identified by orange spray paint, but are fairly obvious (creeks/fencing/etc). No real way to lose a frisbee unless you really grip lock one and rip it over someone's backyard fence, but i haven't done that yet so you're probably good! :)

My go-to course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 5, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The variety of the holes ensures that I do not get bored easily, and it helps me improve my technique. You will very likely never lose a disc, but it will force you to improve your technique. But there are a couple of nice and long wide open shots for the joy of launching it

Cons:

Course tends to get muddy and stay muddy longer, though eventually it does dry up. The layout is confusing at times, and the course will get crowded from time to time.

Other Thoughts:

in the heat of the summer, the ample shade is nice, although it makes the non-shaded holes in the back half of the course more brutal.

Great technicalish (not a real word) course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great course with some wooded technical shots and a few semi open holes. Great for everyone from "pros" to kids. Not too long and lots of shade for most holes.

Cons:

Doesn't drain well after rain. I have to agree that the signage could be improved and it certainly is difficult for new players to figure out where the next hole is.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great course! I've played it over 28 times and it never gets old.

Nice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 7, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great course flow. 9 down... 9 back.

Hole variety is spot on. Hole Shots, long drives, ace potential, elevated baskets...

Concrete tees are great.

Cons:

Signage is lacking. I like the markers on the tees, but first timers often ask where the next hole is.

Also, the baskets are hard to see even when they are in the open. They could use a good coat of bright colored paint.

Other Thoughts:

I love this course. It's close enough to work that I get to do 6-9 holes on my lunch break. As a less than average player, this is a hard course to make par, but still helps with shot development and accuracy.

Whoever put the basket on hole 11 in the top of the tree is a crazy nut! I LOVE IT!!! Never change it!

Great Park ! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Shady area for majority of course
Great Variety of shots off the tee in both distance and locations.
Nicely laid out with short walks between pins and next baskets

Cons:

Can be a little muddy after significant rainfall.
Some tee pads do not have hole markers

Other Thoughts:

Such a great course to play! Had a great variety of shots in play and able to rebound nicely if you have a bad shot off the tee on a majority of the holes. Had about six other people on the course at the time, but was nice way to keep pace of play with those in front of us.

General Review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 13, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Pros:
1) It is very hard to lose a disc here. Not a lot of water or woods for that matter. Hole 10 might be the only hole that you could honestly lose a disc on.

2) Everything on the course plays as a par 3 and going from the regular tees to the advanced tees, definitely makes a difference in how challenging the hole/course becomes. Which is nice because some courses, there really isn't much of a difference. So if you get bored playing the regulars or if you have mastered those tees, try the advanced and I'm sure you will see a higher score that round.

3) Tons of shade

4) Plenty of holes that you should be able to let lose of a disc and not worry to much about going long or OB

5) Course is well kept, but even when it isn't, its not like you have to search for your disc very long. Grass never gets too long and their are no woods to shoot into making you have to search which is nice. When you want to play but don't want to have to worry about losing a disc, this course and L.L. WOODS are my go to courses.

Cons:

Cons:

1) popular course so it is busy a lot of the time even during the week.

2) TONS of trees. Especially from the advanced, you have even more in your line. If you get lucky you can get through, but you can also have a bad round and get super frustrated because you will some how find every tree on each hole.

3) due to how many trees there are, if it rains, this course can be muddy for quite some time. Due to the shade and moisture, it can get pretty nasty out there for majority of the holes. Then the tee pads get really nasty and hard to throw from. I would avoid this course if it's rained recently.

Other Thoughts:

Great course though, one of my favorites. I wouldn't bring a noobie here though, they will find a tree almost every time which would most likely deter them from wanting to play again because they didn't have a good first time experience. Try LL Woods for a new player. You always want a friend who hasn't played before to have a good time and want to come back and play with you, this is not that course. They will double if not triple a lot of these holes. Trust me, I know. I've brought two friends with me separately and I had to convince them after 18 that not all courses are like that because they did not have fun. Doing bad at anything sucks.

Pleasently suprised 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 3, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very nice course. shielded from the wind and sunlight for most of the course. The shade will make it nice in the hot summer.

Cons:

It is easy to shoot at the wrong basket in several spots as has been discussed before, but I played with someone that was familiar with the course.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 10 needed to be mowed, tall grass steals any chance for skips. I usually steer away from intercity courses but I was very happy with this one.

Fun all around course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 20, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Most of the course with the exception of 13-15 is well shaded, which is great in the summer
Plenty of trees in the fairway. It's not the most difficult course, but you can use the trees to play with different lines.
The creek is clear and shallow, so you're not likely to lose a disc. Part or all of it is often dry in the summer.
Great use of limited space and elevation.
Concrete tees, and two on most holes.
Good place to bring friends who are new and still have a good time.

Cons:

Some tee boxes are a little short for a good run up.
Not very intuitive layout. Hard to know where all the tees and pins are the first few times. Bring a map.
Need better numbers on the baskets. The first few times I played I threw at 18s pin on hole 2.
Blue baskets are hard to see even when you know where they are. I'm considering going in at night and painting them neon orange.

Other Thoughts:

I was going to list litter as a con, but there are trash cans every few holes. It's not the courses fault, it's lazy players. Most of us carry bags...throw your empties in your bag until you get to a can!

For the area, it's one of the more wooded courses. Great for working your technical game and still has a few holes for long open drives.

Overall, it's a nice quiet secluded dg only area good for beginners and still fun though a bit short for advanced players. I live a mile away and am happy to call it my home course.

North Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good Baskets
-Good Teepads
-Well thought out pin placements
-Great course design
-Multiple tee & pin positions
-Well Marked
-Easy to navigate
-Well manicured park
-Uses variety of shots

Cons:

-Some of the teepads were short
-Busy
-Lack of parking (especially parking safe from discs)
-Lacked the pizazz required for a 4+ rating

Other Thoughts:

This is a really great course. A course has to be really outstanding to me to receive over a 4, North Park is a great design - but lacks the individuality required for a 4+ rating.

That being said, the elevated basket on 11 in the tree was definitely a signature hole.

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very nice park and course that is well taken care of. A lot of the holes have long and short teepads as well as as long and short pin placement. Baskets are really nice and course requires a lot of different shots. Some holes require a big arm and some require your finesse game to get around or thru trees.

Cons:

The flow of the course was a little bit of a drag and included some added walking to try and find the next hole. Also it was a bummer to see trash out on the course. The trash wasn't too bad but they could use more trash cans to prevent it.

Other Thoughts:

If your close its a must play, about a 20 min drive for me and I'm glad I made it, it was worth the drive. Would play again for sure.

Little Gem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 9, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The design of the course was phenominal, given the amount of actual space that the park has and the length of the holes. There seems to be no wasred space in the park. The 'creek' comes in to play on many holes adding risk/reward aspects to a good number of holes. But since it is only 2-3 feet wide and very shallow there is very little risk to losing a disc. Good use of the minimal elevation change. The fence was beginning to go in on a few holes to mark fairways which gave a very nice aesthetic and makes you aware of the OB from the tee. The holes were dug for more trees to be planted which is much needed in a few locations.

Cons:

A few pin and tee placements on a couple holes make for a potential hazard ( 16 pin / 17 tee & 4 pin / 5 tee). However trees were in the process of being planted to help protect the tee area. The only other con that stood out was a few of the tee boxes could have been larger ( hole 2 seemed very small).

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course, for me, is worth the trip to the other side of the metroplex. The course seems to be neatly kept and having two tees for most holes adds to the whole experience and creates a much larger course than what you'd expect.

In the trees! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 13, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course had 2 great maps at each end! One greeted you as you dove in so there was no guess work. I printed off the map on line so I was one step ahead. The course was easy to follow and did not need much guess work. Great baskets and new tee pads. There was a nice little creek but for the most part it was dried up. The trees make you work here! I got a kick out of the basket that was mounted in a mini tree stand.

Cons:

Not much to fuss about here. I noticed that some of the baskets were missing. I think that is because they cost a bit and they move them from the "A" to the "B" spot to make the course interesting.

Other Thoughts:

I wish I was not 1/2 way across the country from this course. I'd love to play this one a lot more!

Fortress 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This coure has a little something for everyone. Short accurate shots and long drive shots. Its mostly shaded, which is great for these hot Texas summers. The course is very well maintained, mostly mowed and clean. Not alot of action here or at least not like some of the other courses in the area, but has some of the most challenging and interesting holes.

Cons:

Mixed tee's, some are concrete some are dirt,
no multiple pin positions, no signage for navigation.
I only put these things here because they are what other people would consider cons. These things do not make the experience for me. I can very easily look past these small things for such a fun course.

Other Thoughts:

This is an up and coming course that i WILL rate a five when all the upgrades are done. I would recomend this course over almost all others, it is a must play!!

Great shadey course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

This course is a very good course to play during those hot sunny days in Texas. It is a very well shaded course. Only a few holes require you to play in the open sun. The majority of the course is played under a nice canopy of trees. Most holes require you to thread the needle to get good shots. The entire course is well maintained, mowed and no major thick brush to walk through or hide discs. I did not see any poison ivy.
A practice basket is provided by the #1 tee box near a picnic table.
An elevated/platform basket is on hole #11.

Cons:

Really not too much to complain about here. I have only played this course twice and that is my major complaint thus far. If I lived closer I would definity play this more often. If you like to really unleash strong power throws, you wont get a lot of open shots like that. More trash cans should probably be provide towards the end of the course. A large collection of trash by the #16 tee box sign was unsightly.

Other Thoughts:

While playing this last time, I was informed of a couple of mandatory's. These areas are spray painted on trees with orange paint. I will upload a picture.
This course is good for beginners and advanced players.

Thanks for reading and please rate my comment.

George, George, Look Out For That Tree 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 3, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There are some really tough shots to maneuver your disc around this somewhat dense forest of trees. There are a few holes that you can release the big throw on, but most of your shots need to be calculated. Many of the targets were hidden behind trees and were fun to figure out a way to get your disc in a position to even get a shot a birdie or par. Take note on which discs you take, because I can't imagine a round here without a good chop at a tree at some point. ;o) There are some good holes where some tough aces are possible. This was fun. I noticed that the neighboring ballpark does have restrooms open most of the time, so add this to the positives. There are 2 really cool holes to mention. #11 is a shot off a small cliff into the woods to a basket built up on a large wooden box with some large trees growing up around it. #15 is called the Fortress. IT is another shot off a high point long to a wall of trees. The basket is behind those trees. A huge hyzer can get there if your distance and heigth is on.

Cons:

As mentioned in other reviews, you will need the map or pair up with someone who has played this course before. Finding hole and target is about as tough as playing it. Many of the signs and tee lines have been torn up. However, after 1 or 2 times through, it should obviously get easier. Beware the bordering homes and their fences. If your disc goes over a fence, just be careful going after them, there are some big dogs that will take ownership of your disc BIG TIME! Originally, I could not find the multiple tees, I did eventually find that these are marked by a blue post further behind the regular ones. Also, as mentioned before dirt tees can be a problem after a good rain.

Other Thoughts:

The person managing the course takes pride in making this course challenging and I agree that he has done that. Everything was mowed and cleaned up well. Once you understand the course layout and the specific mandos,"Out of Bounds" in the middle of the course, I think you will agree. This is lots of fun, because you will need just about all your bag of tricks to manage even one round out here. This is a fun technical adventure. **This is also one of my home courses.

Update: Cement Tee Pads & benches are being installed and it is really helping with the days that follow a rain.
