Pros:

Beautiful course, interesting holes, elevation, water hazards, choices...

Cons:

Signage, Signage, and more Signage. There are wonderful signs at the Tee but by the time you get to the basket you will have no idea where the next tee is.

Other Thoughts:

Home of Marshall St. Disc Golf shop which is fantastic.

Pros:

Nice people with generous pro shop. Bought what I needed to play. Great layout on varying terrain from woods, water and open meadow.
Seemed to have thought of everything with brooms on tee pads. Well marked layout.

Cons:

Little sloppy this day as snow in the shades was melting.

Other Thoughts:

First time paying to play. Was worth it.

It was like a great movie with a chit ending :( 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 3, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The first 16 holes were great. amazing use of elevation, creek, and woods.
Good variety of shots, distances, and fairway widths.
Some of the best signage I have ever seen.
2 baskets on every hole. Discatchers at one layout and chainstars on the other to make it clear.
Great course maintenance The hanging basket on 4 fell down and was fixed by the next morning.
Of course Marshall Street is by far the biggest pro for this course, it is amazing.

Less than a mile from Maple Hill make this a perfect travel destination.

Cons:

I can not believe Marshall St. would approve a hole like 18. It is a total danger and 50% of my group refused to finish the round because of the danger of hitting cars, and one of the guys who decided to play it did hit a car in the parking lot.
Hole 17 was a safety hazard also with the basket just a few feet from the road leaving you putting right next to moving vehicles risking damage to vehicles and the chance your disc could get run over. These 2 holes ruined an otherwise spectacular course.
On many holes the 2 baskets locations were not different enough to notice.

Other Thoughts:

The cost is well worth the play, but it would be better to play both baskets on 2 other holes than to play 17 and 18. If they were to change 17 and 18 I would rate this course at 4.5, but I can not overlook such a disappointing ending.

First Pay Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 7, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Incredible layout! The course has everything you could want! Short holes, long holes, tightly wooded, open, uphill, downhill, right, left and even unique amenities such as the hanging basket on hole #4 of the gold course!

Two baskets on every hole with very detailed signage for each. signs include hole number, distance, par, diagram of the optimal path, and pictures from the tee, approach, and basket.

Extremely clean, even for early spring. You can tell that they're in the process of spring cleaning, however brush and most of the leaves are in piles out of the way. this makes in much easier to walk through the course and also find your shots.

Virtually no litter! Every tee includes a broom for the teepad, a garbage can, and an ashtray.

Practice basket and small field for upshots next to the pro shop.

Cons:

A couple holes (hole #10 and hole #14) have the silver course's basket directly in front of the gold courses. This isn't really a huge problem, but if you're playing the golds is another obstacle to throw around.

Hole # 18 plays right alongside the road coming into the course, has a few small pines directly in front of the teepad. Both baskets are on the other side of the road. Its a short hole, but still kinda dangerous in terms of hitting cars in the parking lot, coming down the road, or hitting other players walking to hole #1.

Other Thoughts:

This course met and exceeded all expectations I had. It was such a pleasure playing such a well maintained, and well designed course. I would highly recommend playing this course, and checking out Marshall Street in person. Everyone there is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. Great course! Can't wait to come back!

Beautiful Oct. DG in Mass. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-superb hole maps on each tee box
-really solid pro shop
-well-marked entrance
-lot of hole variety
-good course map on scorecard
-easy to get to off of the highway - great way to break up a drive to NYC or Boston

Cons:

-could have used a little more marking between holes
-baskets could use some pink day-glo flags or blazes to make them easier to find (some had orange, but that's a tough color in the fall)

Other Thoughts:

-ran into the course designer/owner walking through with his dogs, the guy spent about 5 mins. with me on #10 helping me find an errant drive. we ended up finding it -- what a great guy!
-i'll have to get back here for sure, well worth $$ for the quality of a pay course

Pyramids 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 6, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

18 tees with two baskets to each hole. Baskets are in great shape. Mostly wooded course, yet it is fair in the fact that there are no pinball type holes. Unlike Maple Hill, Pyramids doesn't have as much water and no intimidating 200 plus foot water throws. Most of the water at Pyramids is casual and forgiving. A bit of elevation in the back and forth holes but nothing like Maple Hill. Plenty of parking. Marshall Street is the nicest disc golf shop I have ever seen. Locals are very friendly. Not far from eating establishments. The signage is top notch.

Cons:

The biggest gripe I have with Pyramids is the entrance road, which borders holes 16, 17, and 18. Any throw on 17 and 18 can hit an unsuspecting car. The parking lot is not safe from a bad throw on 18 either. The entrance road is only wide enough for one car, so take care entering and exiting Pyramids.

Other Thoughts:

This course nicely complements Maple Hill and again has the two layouts for players of different skill levels, but here the Silver layout is pretty tough. Play the Pinks for free when you pay for your round at Pyramids.

First Private course Played 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Just a wonderful layout on the course hole 5 is one of the most beautiful that i have ever seen. casual streams run through the course so there is a little bit of water lots of elevation changes makes for a challenging course and multiple baskets is a very nice touch. The signs were well done to make each hole easy to find.

Cons:

Pay to pay $6 but very much worth it to play I would like to say the only reason this is a con all of the courses around me are free and I understand that more money means for a lot nicer courses.

Other Thoughts:

The pro shop for this course is the Marshall street disc golf store and it is so cool to finally go into it the owner is extremely nice and has a great selection of stuff and if you have never been to an actual pro shop you should go and see this one!

Cons:

Not free... and hilly -- not always a con, just something to point out.

Great time as always 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Awesome course with a variety of different types of throws form heavily wooded to open fields. The on-site store is fully stocked and always ready with advice and disc reviews. The difference between the pro and reg. courses is enough that you can play twice in a row and stay entirely entertained.

Cons:

If you hate hiking up and down the same steep slope 8 times, being a walking buffet for bugs, or paying $6 a round, then this course might be an issue for ya. Also, watch out in the winter, the snow makes it treacherous.

Other Thoughts:

The revised 3, 4, and 5 holes are awesome! It opened up a whole lot of room so I'm expecting some more changes or maybe a couple more holes. Nice job guys!

Scenic but not safe 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 3, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great scenery and some creative holes crossing back and forth over a river. Nice elevation changes, and a good mix of short and medium length holes. Having two baskets for each hole is a clever alternative to having two tee pads.

The course houses an unbelievably well-stocked pro shop, and offers a great opportunity to fill up on new plastic before your round.

I felt that the $6 price was very reasonable considering the amount of private land required to construct a course like this.

Cons:

The course layout poses genuine safety hazards. The flight paths cross each other in more than just a couple locations, and hole 18 in particular is basically unplayable on a busy day.

Also, while the course is challenging and requires a lot of accuracy, it doesn't feel like a variety of shots are required - specifically anhyzers and overhead shots.

Lastly, the silver baskets are hard to see - I'm sure this gets better with experience.

Other Thoughts:

If you can make it here during off-peak hours (like a weekday afternoon), you'll have a lot more fun.

A Must Play 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 15, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

- two great layouts, silver and gold, playing from a single tee to either a Mach or a DISCatcher
- some amazIng pin locations
- some tricky, man-made obstacles like woodpiles
- water, woods, terrain, open fields, mandos. This course has some of everything.
- benches near most holes
- the best signs I've ever seen, one set of gold, one for silver, giving a description of the ideal flight to the hole, with 3 pictures to go with said description so you can easily visualize what they're saying
- this course is home to the Marshall Street pro shop, probably one of the top 2 pro shops you can go to
- 2 double disc courts
- port-a-potties near parking lot

Cons:

- the front nine layout gets a little shaky when you just throw uphill, downhill. And by shaky, I mean repetitive and/or slightly dangerous if the course is crowded because you're sometime throwing very close to the next tee.
- not many trash cans
- some holes (like 13) look awesome, but then don't really have any lane to the basket when you step on the tee. That's no fun and can be frustrating, and it'll only get worse as the trees grow up
- holes 17 & 18. Honestly, with how nice the rest of the course is these holes are just lame. They throw down the driveway, back to the house simply to get you back to the parking lot and make it an 18 hole course. The last little bit could use some redesign.

Other Thoughts:

Marshall Street easily has the largest selection of discs and nearly every off-brand disc on the market. They just recently expanded the store into their old garage (the store is the lower level of the owner's house), so it is now twice the size.

No one was using the double disc courts while I was here, but the owner's are more than happy to show you how to play if there's not much traffic on the course.

There are lots of fun shots on the front 9. Even though it's just back and forth it is still more technical than the back. The back 9 will open up your arm a bit more as you climb out of the woods and back into the fields next to the house.

Even with some of it's cons, Pyramids is easily one of the best courses in the nation, especially when you take into consideration that it is the home of Marshall Street, and right around the corner from Maple Hill. A must visit course for any traveling disc golfer.

Pros:

Very nicely groomed course, some holes have narrow tunnely shots makes it great and fun. well designed IMO very friendly people running the show. greatest proshop in the basement nice staff, im down there quite a bit. On hole 13 you got a beautiful view of a swamp at the bottom of the hill and worcester airport, its nice to take a brake and chill there for a few mins. Each tee pad is made of rubber and has tee signs for the silver and gold course, and a broom to sweep away debree that could affect your shot. another plus would be thats about 10 mins from my house.

Cons:

The parking lot is right in the middle of hole 18, it feels a little crappy with the thought of nailing a car. Or getting your car nailed.

DG'ers paradise 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 3, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

For me this is where it all started.
The Pro Shop here is outstanding with a HUGE variety of discs, gear, and schwag with recent updates to the layout making it even more appealing.
The course itself is laid out nicely with a good variety of terrain. The first 11 holes working back and forth across a creek bed, (the creek itself is "casual" and small enough that you can easily retrieve any wet discs) up and down the fairly steep "valley" sides. Its fairly wooded here with a mix of big deciduous trees and saplings but the lanes are wide enough to make it playable, yet challenging. The elevation changes keep you on your toes and can cause some nasty roll-backs if you should hit a tree or get up on edge on your landing.
The mix of Gold and Silver tee/basket options gives you up to four course options for play. They also have a lost & found should you lose track of a shot (say down into the valley off the left side of hole #13 for instance)

Cons:

Hole #17 & #18.
After such a great day at the course, taking those last two shots down the ho-hum driveway/parking area is always a bit of a let-down. There's always a good chance your car will get nailed by an errant shot off the #18 tee pad.
To offset this, I've played both the Silver AND Gold on two other random holes sometime earlier in the day and skipped #17 and #18 altogether.

Other Thoughts:

Don't worry about Baxter, the white Lab Retriever. He's all bark and waggin' tails though he can come across as imposing.
The old, grizzled German Shepherd however, is rather picky about whom can come near. She'll let you know if you're not...

Home of the Pharoahs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 19, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Special note: My rating went up a notch since they revamped the course in late 2011. Now, the worst hole on the course (#18) has been changed for the better - thank you!

Woodsy adventure that takes you through narrow, guarded fairways, through undulating elevation changes, and through a Christmas tree farm. Has two permanent pin positions for variety and immaculate teepads and signs. The course is fairly short for the most part, with many birdy opps., but a poor drive can be punishing due to many small trees outside the fairways, or some steep hills along the creekbed.

One of the greatest things about Pyramids is the disc golf pro shop on premeses. The selection is quite phenomenal (thousands of discs) and the staff most helpful. Give yourself extra time here.

Cons:

These are quite minor- some of the long (gold) pins are quite close to the silver pins, such that they really don't change the difficulty or approach to the hole much (#10, #11)

Other Thoughts:

A couple of the holes, especially #13 by the airport, and #14 can be maddenly tough if you don't play them smart. If you do, then you can par.

Beautiful setting, super clean fairways, great pro shop on premises, friendly 'locals', white layout not too tight but still a challenge for most DGers, gold is tough.

Cons:

Only one I think of is hole 18 plays over the parking lot. It's not a tough or long shot, but the thought of hitting someones car kinda sucks.

Other Thoughts:

I got to play league with the locals when I happened through the area. Ended up on a card with owner Jason Southwick and two other really nice guys. The course itself was gorgeous and so well maintained, but playing with the local crew made it that much more fun, thanks guys!

Excellent Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 8, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great layout through the woods. The first 11 holes are especially fun to play with many trees and a creek in play. It is not too challenging for beginners, who will find the length rather accommodating. Allows experienced players a chance to throw up some aces. Tees are well marked and signs are clear and very helpful. Silver (easier) and gold (more difficult) holes make for more variety and a fresh take on each hole for multiple play throughs.

Cons:

None of the holes are really designed for long range drives. Not a great variety in hole types, mostly wooded, so if you don't like a technical course, this isn't for you. Hole 17 is by the driveway, so watch out for cars, and hole 18 goes over the parking lot, so on busy days that could be treacherous.

Other Thoughts:

Well worth the $5 and the hour and a half drive! You can play a round in the morning, head down the street to Hotdog Annie's for a quick cheap lunch, and come back for an afternoon round or two.

The Pro Shop on location is fantastic and the staff is very helpful. You can easily spend a while in there just looking over the discs before heading out to the course.

I highly recommend this course for all skill levels. It is a great use of space with some very memorable holes.
