nope. Do you see Baseball players chugging beer during competition?
Beer at tournies CAN lead to poor behavior, litter, and an underage player drinking on the course.
Many courses do not allow alchol anyway.

hellz yeah! nothing like getting shwasted in the novice division and shooting 750 rated golf! why do you think people sign up for tournys? for competition? hah!

Even John Daily didn't drink during PGA tournaments. I say keep the beer to the casual rounds.

Doesn't matter much to me. My desire to drink during a round really depends on the general mood around the tourney. When it's lighthearted and fun, I like to have a few beers on the course. When it's more serious I don't. I would say it certainly should not be allowed at higher level tournaments with greater visibility, but for small local events, to each his own.

Should not be allowed during sanctioned events. Non-sanctioned tourneys in parks where booze is permitted should be TD discression.

i don't care. in fact i welcome it. most people i know that drink 3-4 beers per round are fairly worthless by the second round even if they aren't 'wasted', so it can only benefit my finish in the standings

i have never heard of drinking being banned at a non-sanctioned event. the only tourneys i've played have been c-tiers (one b) and as long as your beverage was in a container that disguised the contents, there was no issue.

i rarely drink while i am playing and if i do, it's one per round. it slows me down too much.

Beer muscles are as bad as internet muscles. Imagine me drunk at a tourney, I would walk up to Katchz and try to knock him on his a$$ and end up in a body bag. Voting for drinking at tournaments is a vote to kill prerube.

honestly, I agree with Jrawk.

You sure about that?

The problem isn't a lack of rule, it's that people do it anyway.

Honestly though, I'm all for the compromise - as long as it's not during the round. If people want to have a beer for the awards ceremony while congregating with the other players, etc. then that usually doesn't lead to issues. If a player is rolling a cooler around the course during the round however I think that's something which needs to be dealt with.

I think most TD's are hesitant to DQ people for fear of a bad rep and local boycott.

Enough other players are doing other drugs so who cares. I wouldnt advertise it talk it up though

People will drink whether it's allowed or not. I don't feel like it should be allowed at sanctioned events as others have expressed, but that's for the image of the sport not because I'm anti booze. Frankly, if Climo wanted to carry around a gatorade bottle spiked with moonshine I don't think it would be stopped as long as it was discreet, but he and any other serious player wouldn't because they want to play to win. I dunno about anyone else, but the last time I was mildly inebriated on the course I hit the same tree three (3) times:wall::wall::wall: on the same round and on the third time the disc bounced back and hit me in the shoulder. Not pro level play in any sense.

John Daly most certainly DID drink at PGA tournaments. At the PGA Championship that he won, he pretty much polished off a beer at every tee during the final round to "calm his nerves". He even has stated that he does not remember hoisting the Wanamaker trophy. The PGA does not dictate what the players can or can't do (other than illegal activities). If you want to smoke a cigarette or cigar, you can do so. If you want to have a drink, you are more than welcome to. The volunteers will be more than happy to go get you a beer, martini, or whatever you request. Most PGA players choose not to because there is too much at stake.

That being said, I understand that not all disc golfers have the ability to act like professionals after a few beers. It's not like we have millions of dollars at stake and a bunch of generous sponsors to worry about. There is no way to determine who is responsible enough to drink at sanctioned events, so therefore it is not allowed. Once again, this is a case of 1 or 2 bad seeds ruining it for everyone else. If you are a responsible drinker and feel that a couple drinks calms you down and makes you play better, then just mix up something with some vodka and put it in a water bottle. Problem solved.

As for non-sanctioned events, if the park allows alcoholic beverages then there is nothing you technically can do other than not allow them to enter the tournament...and what is going to stop them from hanging around drinking anyway.

This.

Many non-sanctioned events are more casual in nature and it is nice to enjoy a drink. Personally, I prefer to play with beer. In our casual group, the bottom of the card always gets stuck with the rolling cooler. However, for the professional and competitive competitions, it is best to have a policy for no drinking.
