I think 1st run discs are beautiful, discmania and protostars especially. How do you guys feel about throwing these discs rather than holding them and letting them gain in value?

I really enjoy having that disc and being able to throw it...and currently have two in my possession which is why I ask :D

you get discs to throw them, duh! unless your one of those people that puts them on the wall...

Do whatever makes you happy. If you like looking at them on the wall, put em up there, if you like looking at them in the air, let em fly.

I feel your concern. I bought a bunch of 2nd First run Z Buzzzes(13) new on ebay for around $30 each a few years ago as a lifetime backstock.
But then the value started to go up and up and soon I sold a few on ebay for $120+....I wanted to keep them to throw, but even though I got them for 30, I couldn't justify throwing a disc people would pay over a $100 for..
I have the same feelings now about all my OOP stuff and go back and forth with liquidating and collecting. I wish the stuff I liked wasn't worth so much, the only remedy I've found for this is to buy used..

I throw first run PDs and stocked up early while they were still in stores, but no one likes them so it's not like I'm "throwing money away" by throwing them. I have other 1st runs in my possession too, and they've all been thrown a handful of times by me. None of them are particularly "valuable" though.

I love Innova discs in Star plastic, but they all just have script writing. Its boring, and I like Star plastic, so if I have an option to buy a Proto for a buck or two more than the regular Star runs, I will.

Does it matter that my Xcals, Destroyers and Wedges are rare now and worth twice what I paid for them ? No, because I bought them to throw.

Do I have Protos put away to make money on, yes, yes I do.

i have a first run bolt. i know they are nothing special right now but im still only throwing my 3rd run at this point..... probably will add it to the bag though.

I didn't even read any other posts.

I'll make this as simple as possible. Discs were made to be thrown not kept on a wall! (unless you got an ace on it).

I have some candle stick holders that I bought for $5. They haven't made this kind in 10+ years. Do you want to pay $50 for them? I'd be happy to sell them to you.

I more likely to add a disc than to remove one due to fear of losing em.

My bag is filled with fr, le, &oop discs but i still have enough somewhat stock ones to play a round with.

get one to throw and one to look at. i personally throw all of mine(only one but i have alot of rare and oop KC Pro, CE, Special Blend, and others that are valued at 45+ that i throw.)

I only honor the man's wishes.

It was "Steady" Ed's wishes that once he passed away his ashes be incorporated into discs so that he could fly. "Steady" Ed loved the Disc Golf and Frisbee® community. Ed wished for the community to have his discs and for them to have fun and play with them after he passed on.

On a wierd sidenote, i actually bought a lot of my plastic when i wasnt very good so i saved it until i felt the slight differences would actually benifit me. Im glad i went this route because of how i lost discs then compared to now.

eh in one of my previous hobbies people would collect $2000 pieces of pneumatic paint launchers. nothing surprises me anymore, spending $40 on something you will hang up and smile at isn't that bad.

I don't really like first run discs because if I throw them and they turn out to be better than later runs it only means I'm going to have to pay more for the first run down the road. Even if they don't throw better they're going to cost more (except Grooves) because they cost more at retail, at least with Innova.
