Disc Golf Monthly 92

The announcers don't seem to know much. They were talking AM Worlds champs and neglected to mention Uli.

I may have missed it in the vid, but it seems like they never mentioned what tee and pin position they are using. Love the fact that they put up the map, but without knowing what they are shooting at it's hard to follow for those unfamiliar with the course.

long pad to C pin. there is a permanent set of baskets in C so you can play the 'green monster' layout anytime. a local guy won 9 dga baskets in the big raffle they do every year and donated them to the course. the money for the rest was raised by individual donation.

i guess you don't watch disc golf monthly very much. it sounds like they wake up hungover, smoke a j, then sit down and do one take of commentary without watching it first and call it a day. a month or so back, one guy kept referring to a flick/fh as a 'forearm' shot. i've never heard that one before. i'm no video journalist but i could do a better job than cubby and whoever else is tagging along that month. just watching the vid once or twice and taking notes, then doing just two takes of commentary would make a huge difference.

not really. that's kind of a dumb, rather broad statement

Really? Then why was this tournament, and most tournaments on super wooded courses dominated by guys with good forehand abilities these days?? And I assume you're calling me dumb because you've never said anything dumb in your life.

I definately don't watch them much, and when I do the sound is usually off.
I found it funny that Cubby repeatedly was saying; nice release, great release, check out the release. What a jack wagon.

seems to me that most of the 'young guns' in disc golf throw a very serviceable forehand while still being backhand dominant. big jerm is one of the few 'fh preferred' throwers. i was surprised to see him throw so many backhands at patapsco.

that's what i'm talking about. if that's the best thing you can think of, gtfo and let someone else do it.

After watching that its making me want to go back up to Patapsco soon. Its well worth the hour and a half drive. The last time we went over the summer we did Patapsco, Seneca, and Rockburn..what a great day that was.

FYI...I found the Patapsco episode on Comcast On Demand this month after not finding and DG Monthly
on Demand in Dec '11. Patapsco is truly a great course!

I am always suprised that just about every month someone posts the newest DGM video (thanks!) and people always criticize either the video or the commentary. I agree that that commentary is not great but I love the coverage that DGM provides for free. I appreciate pretty much any disc golf coverage that is provided. Discgolfplanet, MurderMike, Disc Golf Radio, Those guys from Sweden, Clash and Disc Golf Monthly. I would love to have even better coverage with top notch anouncing of events but since I am not personally willing to put in the time and effort to do it I will always thank those that do.

Glong why don't you shoot Cubby an e-mail and ask if you can do some upcoming commentary or even better cover other events that DGM does not make it to so we can have even more video.

If you pay more attention, He says after every drive "nice drive and skip at the end" whether it happens or got eaten by the grass

the video is ok - they only have one camera, so the options are limited. i don't really have an issue with that. some of the angles they choose could be better, but it's not terrible overall.

there's no reason why the announcing can't be 'top notch' with just a little more preparation. i could understand if it was done live - that would be an entirely different story. but it's not, and it sounds like they do one take of commentary and then call it a day. i understand that they aren't paid, but putting in that little effort seems like laziness and a lack of respect for the sport. i've shown the different DGMs on tv to non-DGers that i know, and almost all of them have said the same thing - the commentary is laughably bad.

if anyone has his contact info, please pass it along. do you have any idea where it is produced? i have the necessary recording gear to do commentary tracks on my own if they could send me the footage. i don't have a professional quality video camera, but would be glad to use theirs if it was made available.

I'd agree that a good flick isn't a must. It's nice to have, but you can (and I do) almost never flick and do quite well.

If recent tournaments are dominated by guys who flick, I don't know that to be true, but if it is true, it's not because they're flicking. There's no cause and effect relationship there. They're winning because they're good, and they happen to flick. They aren't good because they flick.

I agree that we are likely to see more and more champs have really good forehand skills, but that has nothing to do with its superiority, its just because flicking is really popular with young and new guys to the game so that part of their game is well developed (often at the expense of other, perhaps more important skills). You didn't see flicks as much back in the 90s. Nowadays I'm surprised to see any casual player who's 21 years old or less that doesn't forehand 90% of his shots.

I never said it's superior to backhand. And saying it's a must was pretty broad, but obviously it helped the guys on the leader card get on the leader card right? And looking at the world rankings, at least half of the top 20 have good, even great forehand abilities. So what I'm trying to say is having good forehand abilities definitely makes you a better player. But I'm sure y'all are as good as these 1000+ rated pros and I have no clue what I'm talking about.

And yes, they are winning because they're good...and also because their flick is good..so yes, it does help them be better than the rest of the field. So therefor, the flick is helping them win.

The guy that films these videos home course is tyler and I think cubby lives in jersey somewhere. I am sure they would welcom someone new or at least a new assistant. Check out tylers website for the dude that videos info

Your posts are full of logical fallacies. You should learn about them so that you can make a proper argument.

Kevin McGorry is the videographer and producer of DGM. Tyler is his home course and he lives there in PA. I played a round with him at Ptap earlier in the year. Nice guy, but gets frustrated easily.

Bob Marley is the videographer and producer of Chainhigh DG out of Delaware. Super cool guy, how could you not with that name. I'm guessing his highlights and final nine should be coming out soon from the Ptap Picnic. We've talked about doing some collaborations for multi-camera productions, but I like to play the events.

I know what a fallacy is. Regardless of anything that has been said, these guys are obviously better than us, and they use forehand shots. I can't believe me realizing I need to work on my forehand game has started an argument because two people on here have nothing better to do but bring people down.
