Do you guys think it ever will be? I think our sport is legitimate enough and professional enough to start being considered. I mean, if Handball and speed walking are Olympic sports then I feel like our sport should qualify as well.

Opinions? Thoughts?

i was telling someone i bet this topic will come up soon. no, the last thing the IOC wants is another US dominated sport.

whats wrong with handball?

Nothing? What's wrong with disc golf...I'm just saying that I find it hard to believe more people play handball than disc golf.

how many countries have a shot at medaling in DG?

^agreed. Don't think it will be in the Olympics, at least for quite some time. I can't believe speed walking's an Olympic event. I know it is, but I'm just saying I can't believe it. I mean why not make seeing how far or hight you can hock a loogey an Olmpic event? :p

There are plenty of good international DGers right now. But, going along with your view, say the U.S. would dominate in the beginning, it would be short lived. Within several Olympic games, there would be plenty of great players in other countries. I think China, with it's one billion people, could find at least several people who could throw a disc.

Badminton is in? :wall: Why not Disc Golf.

you ever watch them play? action's like a video game.
But I get your point: there are some ridiculous events in the games.

Case in point, look how far international teams have come in men's basketball and women's soccer in the past 20 years. The U.S. dominated back then, now the gap has closed.

yes but those are team sports, how many of those US players sitting the bench would be the star on one of the other teams? i bet the US could make 3 basketball teams and win all medals.

i think you could see it one day. obviously it's growing faster now than ever, and the low cost to play compared to other sports could make it a sport that any nation could send competitors for. dunno how it would jive with the drug testing though.

Japan won the women's world cup last year. Brazil came within 15 seconds of beating the U.S.

As for men's basketball, the U.S. can barely field one good team. Let's see them win gold against the likes of Spain, Argentina, etc. before saying they could field three teams.

And, it's easier to find individuals to dominate a sport than field an entire team. I don't think anyone is claiming that Switzerland is a tennis powerhouse, but they do have the best tennis player ever in Roger Federer.

well i think the rest of the world has alot of catching up to do before its considered, why do you think softball is gone?

i find it hard to argue for disc golf being in the olympics when golf itself isnt in the olympics again until 2016 after a 102 year absence

Because it's not played in most nations. If a sport doesn't have worldwide appeal, it's not going to be included. We'd have to wait in line behind rugby, cricket, pool, darts, bowling, etc. before DG would even be considered.

Plus, I'd hate to deal with DG courses getting too crowded if it got that much attention.

this^^

I think they were talking of removing a couple of the events like ping pong and badminton.

I wouldn't mind them thinking of doing it as a sport, one of the Olympic training centers and the USOC is housed in my city.. would be sweet to have the olympic training DG course here aswell. :D

your's aren't crowded already?

You're not seriously going to rube me for a FOUR year old thread are you? I understand you don't think it will be an Olympic event. I still want to see what others think.

i only rubed you so you could see what was said before and where it stands 4 years later. I would love to see it in the olympics but i know the reasons it wont be. I agree some olympic "sports" make me scratch my head.
