[Innova] Gonna get hate for this... But the Groove

I'm still fairly new to this site and disc golf in general but from what I gathered there is a crap ton of hate on the Groove. I'm just wondering why? Where I live almost everyone throws one. I personally have 2 and I routinely throw it 420'+ and accurately. Why the hate?

It has to do with the inconsistency of the mold.. There are good grooves, but only like 2%.. Most grooves came out to be stupid overstable, basically a speed 13 firebird, and with the excalibur and the ape, there is no need for another warp speed overstable brick

people feel part of something once it's cool to do it as a group. and right now it's cool and it's a fad to hate on the groove.

also it's a bit touchy on it's flight. even though my form is in the dumps i still believe i've had that disc do some wonky things on me in flight.

buying them, $4 ;)

I have a friend who just loves the groove, while I hate it. But one thing I must say about it...it is a water magnet. I have never seen a disc that is so attracted to water. He has lost 3 in like 3 months time on our usual course.

I've had 2 Grooves, The first was my favorite disc I've ever owned. It was Stupid Super over stable and deadly predictable. The new one is less over stable, has less glide, but is still my most predictable disc in the wind.

from what i have seen with the groove it flies pretty true to what its flight pattern is supposed to be, but i agree its not for everyone. also, from my experience, people who play baseball and have other sports experience GENERALLY pick up the game faster and throw farther.

I tried it and didn't like it. That don't mean it doesn't have it's place. I traded mine to a 14 year old noobie. He loves it and can throw it farther and better than I could. Its not just the inconsistencies but even on the same disc it works for some and not for others. I just tell him its because its a left handed disc and he is left handed. Haha

Eric, I know you're new here, but have you seen our search feature? I only ask because this is a topic that is as beat to death as "Roc vs Buzzz" and "What is par?". I did a quick advanced search for "groove" in thread titles only and got 16 threads that would've answered this question more than thoroughly, including this one which I believe is a consolidation of most of the threads.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. 400'+ is pretty solid distance, but I would make sure you can throw something much slower (like a Leopard) the way it's intended since high speed drivers do a lot to mask form flaws. I only say that because I started with a baseball background too. I'm glad I found this foum because it helped me add distance with a lot less effort than I originally was using.

It's been hit on already. But the mold's inconsistency from disc to disc is why it's so disliked. I threw one for awhile and it wasn't a bad disc. When I lost it, I went through 2 others that flew drastically different. The Discraft Spectra and the Epic are also discs that fly very inconsistent. I've seen people that are middle of the road intermediate players park 450' holes with an overhand Epic, and the next time they use it they get a 5 because they end up OB or severely off fairway.

But, if you've found a Groove that you can through reliably, then don't let anyone tell you that you're stupid for doing so. Most people like throwing Valks or Wraiths or whatever because when they eventually lose it or beat it up past the point of use, they can confidently go pick up another and know what to expect. With a Groove, that's not likely to happen.

Wait a second, Innova made a disc that was inconsistent?

You don't say.....

Meh, there was one at my local course and I wanted to see what all the "hype" was about. 1) It's way too fast for me, being a 13. 2) The groove in the lip is odd for me, that being said, I really like the Monarch. 3) Throw what works, plain and simple. I love throwing the Leopard and Saint, but you don't see too much love on here for them either, but they work for me. :p 4) Good news for you, they usually sell for the cost of shipping on here, so you can always build up your Groove arsenal!

I guess it's just from 18 years of pitching. Thank god for baseball

yeah i knew a guy great player and he throw the groove really well but his mechanics are great from years like 100 of ultimate...i think that is your case too.

try a saint or katana you will be happy u did.

Noobs think they have strong arm or "I played baseball" - noobs are convinced they are 'speed 12/13 guys' - noobs buy fast discs with cool names - fast discs with cool names include the Groove, Katana, Destroyer, and Nuke - noobs can't throw fast discs (they all curiously act the same, noob hyzer) - noob proclaims fast disc "BAD!" after losing it in the woods, lake, creek, etc. - noobs post on DGCR - other noobs agree.

There has got to be a poll about the most 'found' disc mold; I've seen at least 5 Grooves get found or pulled out of lakes in the last year, followed closely by the Katana which always seems to be lurking near a poorly thrown anny spot.

You seem to forget about Trey (Kachtz) who was throwing the Destroyer 600 feet in 3 months. Some noobs can handle the high speed stuff. Some skills are transferable. For example Baseball players tend to pick up overhand throws very quickly.

I am not sure if the :p means you are joking but I would say those two discs are probably 2 of the top 15 discs on this site.
