New DGCR ratings - Who sucks worse than me?

955. Apparently my home course is pretty tough and I play it well.

Same here, my DGCR Rating is 935, but I don't believe i am that good.
Most of the rated rounds are from my Home Course. It's really tough, but I play there so often that it plays somewhat easier for me.
See, wherever I land, I've been there before and I know what works and what doesn't for most shots.
It really is quite an advantage.
OTOH, my DGCR Rating rating is very close to the PDGA Rating I would have if I played only tourneys at my Home Course. That part of the DGCR Rating is very believable.

That is just like ball golf and handicaps. Home courses are always easier with so much course knowledge.

Discguy - I would have you beat if I had 5 rounds! Give me a week. Heck I can only throw 200 feet anyway (still learning and old).

Oh god...I just started entering my scores this last week or so and I have been on a F*cking TEAR! I'm playing golf way above my average and it shows. Today is my birthday and I shot a personal best at my difficult home course...1078 rated...helluva gift to give myself. I need to stay diligent about entering my scores because right now it looks like I'm lying. I'm sure once I get off of this hot streak it'll all drop back down. You guys don't even want to know. :p

Since some of ya'll have questions, here's Tim's answer from another thread.

The rating is based on your last 12 rounds (if you have enough data). If you don't I'll go back as far as I need to for 12 rounds. I'll base the rating on less than 12 rounds if that's all you have in your scorebook (you need at least 5 for a rating).

You mean...We can add our rounds here and it'll give us a rating? Cool! I haven't played in tournaments since 2006, so I haven't seen a rating since then. Plus, that was a fluke year when I decided to get back into it (and played in three or four). I really haven't been active in tournaments since 2000. No ratings back then.

I saw someone say tough courses are killing their rating. I would hope that's not true and this rating is normed with others who have added rounds for particular courses, otherwise it's a worthless figure.

Anyway, I'm going to give this a trial. I'll play a tougher course and an easier course to see what happens. (In my neck of the woods, Vicksburg Rec. Area and the Air Zoo, respectively.)

Very cool new future. Unfortunately, one of my local courses (Lafreniere) apparently isn't rated, at least not on all 24 holes (which is weird, because it's an old course with a regular tourney there), and neither is an alternate pin setup at City Park, so I don't have a composite score yet. Nice that I can still see individual rounds' scores, though.

Gotta work on bumping this sucker up!

The courses that you will most frequently get hosed on as far as DGCR Ratings are courses with lots of bendy wooded fairways and lots of OB.

DGCR Ratings are calculated based solely for these courses by being set a Heavily Wooded and the length of the configuration you played. Here is the FAQ.

The average throw length throw for a "Pro" on a Heavily Wooded course is estimated to be 255'. So, if the twists of the fairways and trees that even the best players will hit knock the average throw length below 255', the Course Rating (SSE) will be lower than it should be. OB is even worse since not only does it knock your throw length down, but it effectively adds a 0' throw to the average throw length (double whammy).

The other scenario where DGCR Ratings do not work is if the holes are really short (well below 355' for Lightly Wooded, 285' for Moderately, and 255' for Heavily Wooded). This gives the player (and the calculator) no chance at all of getting even close to that average length throw.

If, due to these factors, the DGCR Course Rating (SSE) is several throws lower than it should really be, it underestimates how well you played the course. So then your DGCR Player Rating will also be underestimated too.....killing your rating as you point out.

Thanks for the link, Dave! Now, I'm off to the "tougher" course near me. One way that I will cheat, however, is in the instance of two basket placements that are two feet directly in front of a swampy, eutrophic, highly deadly water hazard. You miss your putt, you stand a good chance of losing your putter. I pace them off and putt from an angle where I won't lose my beloved putters that are essentially members of my family.

823.....I have some horrible rounds in there myself but I'm getting consistently getting better so hopefully my score will keep on rising.
