2015 Pros and Their Manufacturers

You mean GStar Kraits and Champion Thunderbirds.

But yeah, there's no way Innova would let McBeth slip through their fingers. Even if Prodigy gives him a legit offer, McBeth would let Innova know and I'm sure they would match.

Correct....I was on a role with McPros...everything blends together.

I think you guys put WAY to much stock in what Pro players bring to the table for these companies.
Other than serious discgolfers and the friends of these guys... No one knows who they are.... Go tell someone you work with there are professional, traveling, & RANKED disc golfers. Bet you get a funny look. Then ask the same person if they know ummm I dunno any random athlete from any other professional sport. I bet they could make a guess... I enjoy that our professionals are cool and friendly but Nike doesn't. Nike wants the $$$ not the guys that complain about payout. Climo would of been sponsored by someone HUGE back in the day if that was going to happen. The only other person that could be an Under Armour or Nike guy would be "the Beast" the guy is a fricking ATHLETE. That being said Im sure a few people make moves away from Prodigy.... Possibly Will to Innova??

As for people putting WAY too much stock into what a player brings to their companies, I believe you are underestimating it. Some of these guys sell the discs and do other things for their companies as well as play. The guys that do the extra stuff are clearly the ones that make a bigger impact on the companies than just someone who only plays. Everything else you said here I agree with. I get funny looks when I mentioned that there are pros in this sport, even my family gives me funny looks. Anyway, I will say this, if Nike comes out with a disc, I will try it, prolly cost me $60 minimum cuz they like money, same with Under Armor. Personally I think those companies should make a waterproof disc golfing shoe and maybe some apparel and just leave it at that. I'd be happy.

As a brief side note, I saw on the back cover of the current Disc Golfer magazine that McBeth's sig is now on the champ krait as well...? Thought that was interesting...

Pros DO make a difference. They made a difference to me when I was newer and aspired to be a better disc golfer....when I was buying and trying a whole lot of discs! Most of the time based on what is popular/"successful", based on what's said on this forum, or because of the pros themselves. Remember, they're the best players in the world and that means something to somebody! Pros even still make some difference to me because I love to watch them! Although I buy and try extremely few discs and I don't care what they throw anymore outside of my ever morbid interest.

I personally can't quantify what difference some pro might make to a company in net income, but it appears to me that it makes a difference. Is that difference sometimes a "big deal", I speculate yes. Is it usually a "big deal", I speculate no. Of course it is dependent on the year, the company, the pro, etc.

It is not apparent to me why MVP doesn't bother to sponsor pros. Obviously it probably has something to do with the company not wanting to or not caring about sponsoring pros, not thinking it is worth the investment, or possibly they have tried and failed so far. Frankly they don't have a destroyer+ speed discs yet, if they ever can or will make any, and if that meant their pros would require an open bag if only for that slot, then it would be awkward.

I'll be honest. I am kinda waiting in suspense here to see what big shake up might happen. JohnE has moved. Vicich and Lutz have moved. What is the next big move? When will we hear?

As to anyone who says pros don't mean squat to the success of a company... all I can say is Prodigy.

There are a lot of DG companies that you've never heard of out there making quality discs (ABC, Daredevil, etc..) - the only difference between Prodigy and these companies is their list of sponsored players. Because of that, it immediately gave the brand legitimacy and buzz, which has certainly worked for them.

MVP has had success because of the novelty of the 'gyro effect'/overmold with new players (oh look - SHINY!!!), and from my point of view the lack of a successful pro on tour using their product makes me question the ability of these discs to be used at the highest caliber of play, and the companies commitment to promoting/giving back to the sport.

It gets even better for Nate! He just announced on FB he as been promoted to the Star Team for Innova. Well deserved!

Congratulations to Nate and to Innova. Nate is a gentleman and a fine representative for the upper echelon of the sport. Brilliant move on Innova's part to promote him to the Star Team. Good for both.
