Legit Par 2's?

I know that it's been the proverbial hundred years since I was in school, so could you please explain that new arithmetic of yours for me, explaining how the fellow who missed his starting Par 2 hole gets a 12?

He missed the par 2, so his score was 6 on it.
He parred the par 6, so his score was 6 on that.
For the two holes combined, he got a 12.

The player who missed the par-6, and parred the par-2, also got a 12 on the two holes combined.

.....Assuming they parred every hole but the ones they each missed, they end up with the same score. Neither gains and advantage due to the particular hole they missed.
