We made a nice trip "up north' this summer. We stayed at Boyne Mountian, several bars and restaurants on the site, pool and hot tub for after rounds and a championship ski hill course to boot. We had reasonable drives to play Hanson Hills, Carly's Playground and Log Lake to take a break from ski hills and blazing temps around the fourth of July. Nice trip if you are into treating yourself nice, alway a lot to be said for camping too if that is your style. All the Traverse courses are reachable from there, along with Petoskey. Hope you get to take the trip in spring.
