Tick prevention?

Premethrin. Good game.

As good as anything.

pre-hole tick checks ftw... seriously, we do this in a joking fashion but someone is always hollering 'tick check!' on those wooded rounds

When I was in the Army and we were crawling around in the woods of North Carolina, I need not say that ticks were an issue. We would always check each other (especially our heads, behind our ears, etc.) for ticks after outdoor exercises. Sometimes repellent works, sometimes not so much.

Ergo, vigilance is the key.

Although I now have a respect for possums that I never had before.

LOL! By the way, possums are the only member of the kangaroo family indigenous to North America.

Glad those suckers aren't around here a lot, but with the mildest winter I can remember, the mosquitoes, snakes, and poison ivy are going to be unbearable this year.

I find that avoiding the U.S. east of the Rockies while its warm helps immensely towards living an outdoors, tick-free lifestyle.

Where did Lyme disease come from anyway? It seems like it gets worse every year and has expanded from the northeast.

Why are you wasting your time with 30% deet?

100% deet. If they don't sell it around you, get it online. Use that on all exposed skin and under the pants at ankles and on your shoes. Then spray your clothes with 40% at the minimum.

It's scientifically proven (numerous studies) that once you go beyond 10-15%, you are gaining a longer time that you are covered, not more effective coverage. Anything beyond 50% has no impact.

Just sew some patches of these on your clothes -- works great, guaranteed!

Yeah, tell that to the mosquitos around me. And the NoSeeUms. Scientifically proven? Ha. 15% doesn't do Sh@t for me. Not to mention you pay more for more watered down product because it is "family friendly". It is also proven that Deet does NOT in fact cause cancer. But, again, scientifically "proven" can be a very relative term. In my 31 years experience of being outdoors, I do not believe that statement for one second. Not interested in what a scientist in a lab says. I am interested in the behavior of the bugs that are biting me.

More importantly though, don't forget the neck and stomach when adding the spray, no matter what % it is. That tick you got could have entered under your shirt or through the neck on your shirt. Just use in those areas to be safe. Whether or not you believe it to be true, it is better safe than sorry. I personally deal with a lot of tall grass when I play and it works for me. And Lyme disease, as you know, is no joke.
