I don't recall having seem this, but it seems to me to be a good idea:
At each tee, have an elevated area (6" high should be enough, maybe 6x8 feet) off to the side and a bit behind the tee where there's a bench, trash can, etc. People can sit / hang / spectate and because of the elevation, get a good view of the action without having to put their bags down on the (possibly) wet / muddy / goose-poop-covered ground.
For extra internetz, cover it with AstroTurf and include a water jug, bag hanger, and a mini-keg in a cooler!
