Pros:

Alexander middle school is now an 18 hole course. Or it can be played as a nine, ending near where hole 1 starts. Additionally, a nine hole loop can be played starting from Nekoosa high school just across the road. I'll go over the routing for each in the other thoughts section. Red denotes the high school nine, blue is the middle school nine and white is the 18 hole course that traverses both schools.

The baskets are your standard Innova Discatchers. The yellow band makes them easy to spot. All are mounted well and catch nicely. The older nine baskets from the original course are starting to show their age a bit with pretty rusty chains and faded, practically white top bands. The new nine baskets are in great shape, with the exception of one (see cons).

The flow, while a bit strange, is actually an improvement over the original layout for the most part.

There are tee signs for all 18 holes. Pretty basic, but serviceable. Easy enough to spot from a distance. They have the hole #/#'s (more on this in the other thoughts section below), par and distance/distances.

The tees are natural, but these work just fine for a course such as this. Nothing in bad shape or rutted out or anything.

The course plays through a typical, grassy school property for holes 1-7 and 17 and 18. Holes 8-16 play across the street in a mostly prairie type area on the high school property. Decent mix, fifty-fifty really of different hole types. Many open holes but the there are trees used to decent effect when possible.

Cons:

The course is obviously not playable during school hours.

Hole 2's basket was missing the whole top cage assembly when we played. It consisted of just the cage and pole. Not sure what happened here but disappointing since it was one of the 9 new Discatchers.

The flow here is some of the goofiest I've ever seen. It DOES make sense actually, but for a first time player here it's nearly impossible to navigate correctly without lots of wandering. I've played the old 9 hole layout a handful of times. It was a quick play with one long walk from hole 3 to 4 and then a bit of a walk from 7 across the street to 8. It took us about 90 minutes to correctly find all 18 holes now. Extra confusing with the numerous hole #'s of many of the signs.

The prairie holes can be annoying to find discs in. You probably won't lose any but it's still annoying searching in the various types of plants.

A few next tee signs in a few spots would've made this SOOO much easier to navigate, or even make sense of. A course map by hole 1 would've been even better to be honest. But either one or both would make the course much easier to follow.

Other Thoughts:

To play the "Red" course (Nekoosa H.S. 9) : Pull into Alexander M.S. and park near the maintenence garage. Walk east across the road you drove in on. You'll see a sign that will say "white" 8. walk that fairway (or just throw it) to that pin. Look east from the pin for the tee sign towards the H.S. That'll be hole 1 for the "red" course playing to the basket you just holed out on. Play back to the same pin and then the course will flow smoothly in a generally counterclockwise direction. You'll end up nowhere near the H.S. after finishing hole 9, that's why I'd advise parking at the M.S. You could then cross the road and play "white" holes 17 and 18 and then "blue" hole 9, which will get you right back to where you parked, and making it a 13 hole loop in the process.

To play the "Blue" course (Alexander M.S. 9): Pull into Alexander M.S. and park by the Maintence garage. Head towards the pavillion west of the parking lot on the south side of the school. You'll see a tee sign post that shows hole 1 for both the "blue" and "white" course. The first basket will be SW from there. Holes 1-4 play counterclockwise around that area. Cross the parking lot going north after hole 4 to find the tee for hole 5 (original hole 1). Holes 5-7 play on that section. The tee sign you see south of 7's basket will be "blue" 8 which plays to hole 18 "white" basket. From that basket look west and you'll find a tee for "blue" 9 which throws to the same basket you played for hole 4, just over the grassy ditch ending right by where you parked.

To play the "White" course (18 hole layout): Park by the Maintenence garage at Alexander M.S. Head towards the pavillion to the west of the lot and look for the tee sign for holes 1 of "blue" and "white". Play the first 7 holes of the "blue" layout listed above. After hole 7, you'll walk east across the road you entered from to the tee sign for hole 8 "white" which plays to the east. After completing that hole look south for the sign that says "Red" 2 and "White" 9. The course will play counterclockwise through hole 16 from that point. After hole 16, cross the street again towards the baseball field at the middle school where you'll find the "White" hole 17 sign.

I'm tired now...

Other, other thoughts. There's no reason you'd ever want to go out of your way to play here. But I do appreciate the effort that was put into this course since I've last been here. Must play? Absolutely not. but you could much worse than this. I like Ripple Creek better but it seems it's not maintained much in the summer. Riverside is just meh to be honest, and often not fully playable due to other activities going on in the park. Unless yo're strictly bagging courses, Nekoosa in general should be skipped. Point is only minutes away with much bettter options. I wanted to get a review up to help navigate this one if somebody does decide to play here. If they can understand anything I even wrote lol.
