Burning discs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 31, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

There's only one disc course in the Nevada Black Rock Desert, about 100 miles from the next closest one. And its only there for a 10 days out of the year. On those grounds alone I'd have to give it a 5 star rating.

Playing partners are plentiful, nice friendly people from a surprisingly varied background. I played a couple rounds with Big Money, the Gardner, Moose, and some kid that had been there 13 years in a row (although he was only 12 years old). Can't remember the names of other people that came and went, strange. The desert can play tricks on your perception, or was it the tall colorful mushrooms that guide players around the course?

A major plus are the many friendly people wondering by that are oh so eager to throw your disc back to you. There always seem to be a willing audience to watch you throw. Many are naked or nearly so, which is a pleasant distraction and adds to the difficulty factor at the same time (depending on the level of nudity).

Lighted course at night, although I didn't experience it for myself.

Light harassment by the Black Rock Disc Golf Course camp members creates a warm and fuzzy yet somewhat painful aspect. How serous can you take hecklers in tutus?

The course is flat as a parking lot and encircled by tents and RVs, but the view of the mountains is amazing. The stars at night are pretty miraculous too. A big basket of loaner discs is available 24/7. Mandos involve various RVs, mutant vehicles, herds of bikes that roam the fairways, aimlessly wandering intoxicated people, and massive drinking parties spill onto the course.

Cons:

The wind blows, the dust flies, and the ambient music can be really loud, discordant, or a bit too techno for my taste.

Coming from North Carolina the lack of trees was unnerving.

Needs more large colorful mushrooms.

Other Thoughts:

Super nice people and a great camp. They gifted very nice Breaker discs with the BRDGC logo and current BM theme printed on them for people that played their tournaments.
