Maintenance fails a great course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

The scenery is absolutely beautiful. If you make the trip out here, take a stop at the 15 teebox and keep going on the path that cuts across. Pendleton Point is right there and is my favorite overlook in the state. Great beginner-intermediate course, especially in the spring when it isn't overgrown (March-Early June).

Cons:

Look, this course has the potential to be something great, but it needs two things: a better (more challenging) layout with more consistent holes (Holes 11 and 18 are MUCH harder than the rest of the course, which plays like a beginner course, especially if you go by the UDisc Pars), and people who will actually maintain it. I have offered to the staff there to build teepads and clear out areas before and they all just shrugged me off like there wasn't much need, but if you go in the summer, prepare to chuck some discs into the void. There can be weeds and brush over 8' tall, so bring a spotter.

Other Thoughts:

This is my home course, and I have tried desperately to get in touch with the superintendent at the park to see if something can be done about the layout and lack of maintenance and I haven't gotten any response. If the staff actually cared enough to maintain it and put in a gold layout, I could see A Tiers and Silver Series events played here.

A Fun Outing! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 19, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful setting and great access. All of the course was well maintained. Perfect for a quick game if you are in the area. #17 and 18 are a bit wonky, but we found them and they were good.

Cons:

Could use a bit more signage and directions if you cannot see the basket from the tee. Would have liked to have seen a few more twists and turns. Seems like a lot of the holes are just straight shots. But even with all of that, glad to be out and a fun time was had by all.

Pretty, but that’s about it 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

It was gorgeous in places. Played it while the mountain laurels were blooming.
Nice effort to have disc golf in the area
Good directional signs to the next tee

Cons:

It seemed like they gave up after a while. The 17th basket was completely surrounded by waist high grass. The approach was just a gravel road.

Not all of the tees were constructed. The tee surface was a loose, fine gravel that gets in your shoes.

Many fairways were very narrow strips of mowed grass through a meadow. Meh

Lots of hikers on the course

Only one tee per hole, and no information on the sign. No map, no par, no distance, just a number

Other Thoughts:

It was a cute little course. Nice intro course. Maybe don't go too far out of your way, but throw your discs in the car if you're headed that way.

Nice developing course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 16, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good variety of wooded and open holes. Some are easy and straightforward while others are very challenging with tightly wooded fairways. Elevation changes on some holes add to difficulty. All 18 holes are playable but not all tee pads are installed. Looks like they are continuing to work on improving this one.

Cons:

Parts of the course can lay wet if there has been heavy or frequent rain.

Coming along Nicely 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 13, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great use of varying terrain. Front nine pretty easy to navigate. Actually up to 16 holes now.

Cons:

Only one tree pad bit this want really an issue for me. Couldn't find 17 or 18 bit think that is because they haven't been installed yet.

Other Thoughts:

When tee pads ate installed and par/yardage signs are installed, this is going to be a fun course to play. Lots of hard work is going into the course and it will pay off.

I'm new here... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 27, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Here is a chance to throw discs in a beautiful setting in a somewhat remote area. The scenery is great, and now you have a chance to sneak off from grandma and grandpa while they meander around the falls area. We visited in the off season, but the course has ample parking and is located behind a visitor center with bathrooms and I assume a pro shop.

Cons:

This area has a tendency to remain damp and boggy, if there has been rain or snow. Remember extra socks and shoes, because you will get wet on this ride. There is one gravel teepad so far, which was just about underwater when I played. I empathize with the course installers because there is only so much you can do with this type of land.

Other Thoughts:

When you park at the lake and visitor center area, go behind visitors center to the back side of the playground to find hole 1. Play along the woods edge for holes 1&2, then a short uphill woods shot for hole 3. Follow arrow to hole 4 tee. Basket is hidden but it is a pronounced RHFH shot to the base of a hill. Climb gravel path to find tee 5, the best hole imho. It tees off from a rise near the picnic area and plays back down into the woods approx 300'. Hole 6 plays downhill out of the woods, 7 back uphill to the edge again, and 8 and 9 hug the fringe of the field to bring you back near the visitors center.
Kudos to the folks making this course happen, I look forward to playing it in the future. Oh wait I'm moving to Colorado.
