Pros:
Boardman Schools DGC is located on the grounds of Glenwood Junior High, with views of Boardman High School (Go Spartans!)
The course does provide plenty of variety for a course located at a middle school. Several holes can be tricky at times, playing through and around the lush wooded area. Sharp shot shaping is required at times, with a few opportunities to let a long drive rip.
Distances range from 163' to 462'. I wouldn't call this a pure beginners course, but there's fun to be had for the younger kids as well as more experienced players.
Beautiful, hand-carved wooden signs mark every tee pad. Baskets are brand new MVP Black Hole's.
#1 is a very fun start. It's the longest hole on the course at 462', playing through the woods with a dogleg left.
#8 is also enjoyable. It's a 223' downhill shot with a protected pin placement that may be prone to rollaway approaches.
Cons:
While the course is designed very well for what the property has to offer, there's little variety in elevation or hazards. The only notable elevation changes are a small hill on #7 and the downhill drive on #8.
Tee pads are natural. Not sure if there's any plans to make them permanent in the future, but right now you just tee off in the grass.
A little more maintenance would be nice. Some overhanging branches need to be trimmed, some of the rough is pretty long.
Other Thoughts:
It's great to see school districts investing in the sport!
I thought the design was perfectly balanced, with each hole providing a unique challenge.
With all of the new courses going in, it's easy to see that Mahoning Valley is beginning to become a disc golf destination for those in the area!
