Watch for Piccoglow!

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 25, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

This little course plays almost links style along the back of a very busy active use park along a waking path. Most holes are 220-330 with some beautiful old hardwood trees weaving unique shapes on many holes and even a tiny bit of elevation that comes in the form of a little hill the #4 basket is on.

The course has great signs that show both pin positions well, a couple of tees have benches and the baskets are DGAs that I think are Mach Vs. Baskets are in good shape and catch pretty well.

The course makes decent use of some fairly limited space and though it's super fast playing it's quite fun.

Cons:

It's the type of breezy little course you wish had another 9 holes.

Nothing overly long here, I threw a 7 speed driver mainly for the longer holes and it was plenty.

If you throw under 300 maybe bring a distance driver.

The only real con is the walking path is super busy and right by the final 4 holes, so be prepared to wait a bit.

Other Thoughts:

Apparently I just missed their very popular glow league that happens on Monday nights. They have glow tape on the basket poles as well which is a fun touch(though officially the park closes at 6 in the winter).

Playing the Piccolo 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

9 holes with a short and long concrete teepad to every hole. Baskets are in decent condition. Course is in a small portion of a larger county park and offers some open holes, some tighter wooded shots, and even a place to try shots you wouldn't on a normal course. Open field nearby (if it isn't being used for soccer or cricket) for field work. Plays very quickly. Tee signs on every hole (at the long pad). Other amenities on site as this is a county park.

Cons:

While there is a walking path nearby, there is not really much in the way of OB to speak of. No water hazards (unless your drive on 3 goes over the fence), which can work as both a pro and a con. No real memorable holes or must play holes.

Other Thoughts:

In a section of Broward county that really doesn't offer a lot of options for disc golf without a 20-30 mintue commute, Brian Piccolo fills a void. It can serve as a quieter option for newer players to learn the game without fear of losing discs to water hazards. It is also a quieter option as far as disc golf courses go, for a 9 holer doesn't see the foot traffic that an 18 holer would.

Playin The Pic! 2+ years

Pros:

Playing here at the Brian Piccolo County Park DGC sure brings back memories of the 1971 movie, "Brian's Song." One thing is sure, this county park is well signed. I saw the first sign back on I-75 about five miles from the park. The park is a fairly large county park with a very popular walking path, lots of ballfields, picnic areas, racquetball courts and more. The disc golf course sits back at the rear of the park near the racquetball courts and then plays out to the street and back. This 9 hole course is a solid recreational throw. It won't challenge the better players but definitely provides a fun little experience for most of us.

At the start, you'll find a nice course sign complete with course map. There are two concrete pads for each hole and the tee signs are small metal ones showing the distance from both pads. The baskets are DGA Chainstars with the hard to read red numbers on top. There is also a number on the inside pole. It's always the simple little 9 hole courses like this that are the most well marked.

Distances from the regular tees, where the tee signs are, are between 265' and 368'. The shorter pads are usually about 75-100' shorter. There are some great tee pad locations. The course designers did a nice job setting them on some of the small rises or in the case of # 3, tucked up tight against the fence.

Cons:

The # 6 basket has been jumped up and down on. It's somewhat bent down.

Thick Florida grass would be very soggy after a rain = very wet shoes.

You'll most likely have to wait for passing walkers on a couple of holes.

Wind.

Holes 8 & 9 are open and kinda boring.

Other Thoughts:

When I stepped up to throw on # 4, I thought, "What a cool hole." The basket was set just past this small gauntlet of trees. I was pretty disappointed when I discovered, I was seeing basket # 6. The # 4 basket is placement is OK but not as cool as in that gauntlet of trees. But hey! If I ever came back here, I'd play this hole to the # 6 basket and no-one would know or care!
