Pros:

(2.524 Rating) A 20-acre private course with some unique looks.
- FUN FACTOR - The Camp strikes all the right chords for casual players looking to have an enjoyable time. First off, the environment here has a tasteful arts and crafts feel to it. As for the gameplay, the birdie potential is super high. Novice level players could even card several of them on a good day. Ace potential is high too. For example, hole (1) to start is a sub 200-foot obstacle free downhill shot. As for bad shot mercy, I'd say the odds of losing a disc or spending time searching for one in the overgrowth is possible, however these odds are probably slightly lower than the average course IMO.
- OWNER - I spoke with one of the property owners, Brian, for several minutes post round and I could genuinely grasp his sincere love and willingness to help others. The properties main focus is a summer camp for foster and adopted children. You can tell he's wired with tons of positivity.
- RAW BEAUTY - The Camp is on twenty acres of moderately rolling terrain. The first couple holes to start were a bit plain, but hole (3) was nice and then (4) was awesome with the basket framed in a tight fairway tunnel and it was perched on an outcropping. (6) is another beautiful tunnel shot with a wood bridge along the right side. There's a nice pond on the property too, which also effects the play on one hole. Unfortunately, the pond is leaking water to a nearby spring and has to have the bottom re-lined. The pond should look gorgeous when it's fixed.
- HOLE VARIETY - Albeit on the shorter and simpler side, I was personally pleased with the variety of the looks. Up shots, down shots, twists and turns. Distances range from 156 feet to 430 feet and I used several different discs and shot types off the tee. As noted above, there's some water too, but again it was only in play on one hole.
- SKILL LEVEL FRIENDLY - I think a wide swath of skill levels are going to enjoy this one. Will be loved most by Recs and Novices, but Beginners and Intermediates should like it too. Those at the Advanced level will be underwhelmed, but they may enjoy this track for other factors.

Cons:

The new course smell is still in the air.
- YOUTH - I played here within two months of the course opening and so I didn't take off as much points as I would have for missing basics like if the course had been in its tenth year. The tees were natural for the most part and without leveling yet. Signage was limited to two orange flags to signify a tee. A few fairways were raw and not fully beat-in yet. As long as the love keeps flowing in, the course should be expected to keep improving over the next couple of years.
- NAVIGATION - As noted above, this course is young and does not have signage yet. Players will need a navigational app or guide to play here first go around.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - This course was set up for Novices and Rec Players. At a recent tourney, an even par 55 netted an 837 rated round. Players like me who yearn for cerebral intensity aren't really going to find it here except on a couple holes. Numerous holes felt like deuce or die plays. I personally shot 7 down which is probably right where I'd be often as an Intermediate level player.
- MULTI USE HAZARDS - The layout interacts with other camp buildings and camp access roads on a few holes. The roads are almost never going to be an issue due to low traffic, but it's still possible. However, a building could be hit on three holes, (2, 10 and 18).
- BASKET AND TEE SEPARATION - I don't think the baskets are concreted yet, so this will likely be tweaked and improved. Anyways, there are 3 or 4 baskets that I felt were too close to the next tees.

Other Thoughts:

I very much appreciated the charm to this place. Of the two courses in Clanton as of this review, this is my new favorite. I'd even go as far as saying that this is my favorite among its five closest neighbors. I don't think the course is to the same level as the higher acclaimed Birmingham courses. However, if traveling along I65, I'd say this is a worthy detour for a change of pace. Please be sure and contact Brian a-head-of time before venturing here.
- DONATION TO PLAY - I made a five dollar donation to play here. Seemed reasonable to me.
- CHAINS - Not top tier DISCatchers but they caught halfway decent. The brand is called Active Target from Discmania, and it's a variety I had never played to before.
