Wooded and fun! 2+ years

Pros:

9 hole course located in the wooded sections of Church Creek park in Stanwood, WA.

Mach V baskets, all in great repair and mounted well. They stood out well in the woods, and I especially liked the custom rings around the tops of the baskets. One pin position per hole. There were some really nice tricky pin placements here. Hole 7 stood out.

Nice concrete tees. Wide enough and grippy. Not overly long, but you shouldn't need any long run-ups here.

The course plays through the woods, with some nice technical lines and some elevation incorporated. Hole 4 is a damn fun little downhill shot that would fit in on any 4.0 course.

For a short course, there's some nice shot variation. Designed very well in that regard. Hell, I even threw an OH drive.

Tee signs on each hole, with all the information you'll need. A welcome sight after playing so many area courses with no signage. Navigation was easy enough.

Cons:

I wish there were 9 more holes here.

Most of the course is pretty short, with only one hole over 300'...which just happens to be the last hole, and it feels completely out of place compared to the rest of the course.

Hole 3 is low lying and held some water when I was there.

Other Thoughts:

Outside of being short, there's really not a lot of bad about this course. I had a fine time throwing here, and would definitely go back if in the area. It should appeal to most skill levels, and offers a decent amount of variety for a 9 hole course.

Close enough to the highway to stop in for a round if you're in the area!

Hole 7 Is Hazardous To Us More Mature Players! 2+ years

Pros:

Church Creek DGC is one of Washington State's newer courses located in Stanwood. Church Creek is a small city park, mostly wooded. The little 9 hole beginner/Rec course starts and plays throughtout these woods for the first eight holes before ending with # 9 in the more mainish part of the park. There is no course sign or way of really determinng where the course starts. I found # 1 close to the parking lot and near the ballfield. The course features concrete tee pads. Four holes have these nice metal signs. They have the par, distance, a picture of the hole, the route and a sponsor's information. Two other holes had the sign and post leaning up against a tree or something and three holes had no sign at all. I don't know if there were nine signs and they've been stolen or vandalized or if signs are just now being installed?

The course is definitely recreational/beginner length and difficulty. Holes are mostly in the 200 foot range. Only # 9 at 320' offers much distance. The baskets are very pretty PGA Mach V with orange rims. The course features a fun little downhill, # 4, and a steep uphill, # 5.

Then there is the easy but semi-dangerous, # 7. # 7 is is just a short little 165' toss across a fairly steep ravine. The throw is recreational easy. The trek from the pad to the basket is rated Advanced Level difficult. It involves first climbing down a steep dirt embankment and then a high wire balancing act walking over the 8-10' ravine on a log maybe 18" wide. This would be really exciting in wet or icy weather!

Cons:

Lack of signage.
Lack of distance.
Lack of challenge.
Dangerous ravine crossing on # 7. (Younger, more agile players would call this crossing unique and enjoyable, I get it)
# 3 was a pretty boring hole.

Other Thoughts:

I liked this course a lot. I'll continue to stop and play it every time I drive north. Lots of holes I look forward to throwing again. There are some nice ACE opportunities here. Congrats on the design. I hope to see a little help on # 7, some kind of steps or ladder getting down and maybe taking a chainsaw and flattening out the top of the log and making it into more of a bridge and less of a tight rope experience.

I'll be back!
