Stunning Location 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 20, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Location: This course has got everything going for it. 100ft from the sea, right next to the beach. Overlooked by the castle and a superb cafe on site. Playing here on sunny day with not a cloud in the sky it is difficult not to wax lyrical about the place.

Footgolf: This is the first time I have seen a course where the baskets are set into the Footgolf holes. I feel this is a good adaptation, meaning that the 2 sports can co-exist.

Signage: The course was easy to follow and the course map was easy to read. Its not a big area so it is difficult to get lost, but the signage really helps with the navigation.

Course Owner: Andrew is extremely knowledgeable and used to play in Canada before moving to Wales. It was a joy to stand and talk to him about the course. He is very open to improvements and is always looking to push the course forward.

Hall of Fame: If you set a course record, don't forget to sign the hall of fame book at the clubhouse. At time of writing the record stand at 22 (-5)

Cons:

Baskets: These are not the grippiest of baskets and could do with another ring of chains. I didn't have any spit outs on my visit, but the light chains didn't fill me with confidence to putt with any great speed.

Length: This course is not the longest. All the holes would comfortably fit onto a football pitch, with room to spare. For any experienced player, you should be looking at a round made up of a majority of birdie 2's. Please don't take this that some of the holes are not challenging, but it shouldn't trouble the top players.

Other Thoughts:

When playing the course I played all golf greens as OB, but this is not course rule

Hole descriptions:

Hole 1 - An uphill hole to start. OB down the right - careful not to end up on the beach. A small bump at the back of the green guards the basket

Hole 2 - A flat hole, again with the beach on your right (OB). The basket is set to the right of the golf green so the OB shouldn't come into play.

Hole 3 - A longer downhill hole. Beach (OB) again on your right. No other real hazards here. The basket is directly behind the golf green.

Hole 4 - A difficult hole to get right. OB on both sides of the hole (beach right and railway left). The hole tapers to a point, with thick bamboo behind the basket. I have suggested that the basket be moved a bit further back to make this hole even harder.

Hole 5 - An uphill hole with the railway right (OB) and thick bramble behind the basket. If you intend to throw a hyzer on this hole please check the rail timetable first as you really don't want to hit an oncoming train. The course are considering putting a Mando pole on the right of the fairway to stop people throwing out over the railway.

Hole 6 - A short kinking hole. A short approach short will leave you in the long grass with difficult footing.

Hole 7 - A very short hole. The basket is sunk into the bump around the green which can lead to roll away putts if you misjudge your throw

Hole 8 - An odd hole as it didn't seem to fit with the flow of the rest of the course. Once finishing hole 7, you walk the length of hole 8 to then play back the opposite way. Could another hole not be added into this space to save the long walk?
The hole itself is a non descript straight flat hole, with a slight ditch behind the basket to catch out longer throws.

Hole 9 - A longer downhill hole to finish, careful not to throw slightly left of the basket as this is where the croquet lawn is. This is played as OB. Also beyond the croquet lawn is the kayak store. The store is not OB, and could lead to odd footing for your come back putt.
