Decent school course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course plays along the sports fields between the elementary school and the high school. Hole 1 starts by the eastern side of the high school parking lot playing east toward the south lawn of the elementary school. The pin for hole 1 sits on a little bit of a ridge 15 or so feet from a small wooded area. Hole 2 continues southeast to a pin with some bushy pines 20 or so feet behind. Both shots are between 250' to 280' I'd guess. Hole 3 is one of the more standout holes. You tee off behind the bushy pines with the pin tucked blind behind the pines along a fence line. It's a 200'ish shot but it is blind off the tee with OB present the whole left side. Also if you go too long there's a small softball backstop fence not too far deep and right of the pin. This will make putts from long shots nearly impossible. Hole 4 plays south back on the high school grounds with a wooded fence line and OB field along the whole left side. It would require a pretty shanked shot to end up in the field if It's calm but on a cold, very windy November day I managed to almost land in the tree line. Hole's 5 thru 8 are all your standard wide open school holes with varying distances up to maybe 280' I'd guess, if that. Hole 9 is a good finishing hole. You either swing a big hyzer up and around the trees (RHBH) and try to crash it near the pin or try the low laser shot up the gut at the pin. Great use of the trees here to make an interesting hole. The baskets are DISCatchers that were all in pretty solid shape and caught great. The tee signs are just wood posts with the hole number on them. These are really all you need here since it's all nicely mowed school grounds. These at least help with navigation and make following the flow of the course very easy. The course is open year round and free to play. This is a good place to work on your short game or to introduce newer players to the game.

Cons:

There's not too much for cons here. I mean it is kind of your typical public school course, but a touch better because of holes 3 and 9 which add some trees into the equation. With that being said, It's still not that exciting of a place to play. The course won't be playable during school hours, obviously. The course doesn't start and end right by each other either. It's not too far apart but worth noting. The parking lot along 2 is also a little too close for comfort. An errant shot could easily find a vehicle here.

Other Thoughts:

All in all this is a pretty well designed course for the property that they had available. It's not too far off of Hwy 29 or 94 either and is a quick spin. If you have enough time you'd be better off stopping in Menomonie though. More and better options that can be played when school is in session.

Basic School Recreational Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

•DISCatcher baskets in very good shape
•Fairways are far enough apart errant shots aren't in danger of going to other fairways

Cons:

•Very few obstacles, Only holes 3 and 9 have any trees
•Course does not loop, Hole 1 is on the east side of the school and hole 9 ends on the south side of the school

Other Thoughts:

It's a pretty standard school recreational course, plays around the sports fields so very few trees for obstacles, natural tees. Not really much else to say.

One thing I like about this course is so many school courses have holes playing right next to each other so rec players who don't have great control will often put themselves and others in danger by throwing on other fairways. This course has a pretty linear flow that prevents this.
